The other thing the new Z06 has going for it is because it's supercharged the aftermarket will pump it up to 800+ hp with little effort.

Maint isnt going to get any cheaper for your 360. If it's too much, sounds like the Z06 is for you. will prolly be one of the more formidable cars out there, bar none. but, it wont bee a Ferrari. if the joy and mystic of owning a ferrari isnt enough for you to keep your 360, sounds like it's time to move one. dont intend to ever sell my cs, even though the c6 z06's and up will crush it given the same driver.

good luck on your decistion, you shouldnt be dissappointed with either car.

btw....tried to muck up my post a bit for those of you who are judgemental of such things.

The thing is with all the aero, downforce, brakes, e-diff, etc. the new Z06 will also handle. It will be a monster in a straight line and on a road course.

It may be that we are reaching a point with the C7, esp. the Z06, similar to some years back when modern electronics made it possible for reasonably priced audio equipment to sound so good that only the most discerning audiophiles could hear a difference compared to crazy expensive equipment. With cars, the subjective feel is still as important as objective performance numbers, but really, the gap between exotic and Corvette is very narrow now.

I think this is a common refrain or at least has been since the C4. It certainly was when the C6Zo6 came out.

If you're buying on the primitives you're probably not going to buy a Ferrari. There are numerous cars that are more bang for the buck not only from a purchase price but total cost of ownership.

    I don't see a question here?

Okay. 2015 Vette is better objectively than a Ferrari introduced in 1999. Okay. There are lots of cars out there...I don't get why this is posted on Ferrari chat.

    Feels quite trollish.

I agree with you and my premise is that it a combination of Ferraris becoming less raw and more refined and the Corvette Z06 becoming more refined. I may be reading too much into The Mayor's thread about being done with Ferrari, but it is a reoccurring comment I keep hearing. I was impressed with the C6 Z06 but I think the C7 Z06 is in a different league in finish as well performance. Some may not think it is a Supercar (I don't think it is, nor do I consider any Ferraris with the exception of 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo and La Ferrari), but certainly has Supercar performance. This should be great for all car enthusiasts, competition is a very good thing, especially at this level.

If your main concern is raw performance hard to beat a Vette. Looks good too.

I have not driven the new Vette, but my guess, assuming the new Vette is similar in this respect to the old one, where the f430 will be different is that it is more of an "event" to drive.

In other words, if you are driving the speed limit to the ice cream place 1 mile away my guess is that not only will the f430 be the car that makes you smile, but it will be the real reason you are going to the ice cream store to begin with---not the ice cream.

I think it's great to talk about the new Vette in here. I like the car, I like a lot of cars. I still have the image burned into my mind of the stereo-type of the guy with the handle bar mustache, aviator sun glasses, tank top and dolphin shorts dripping with cocoa butter cruising the strip looking for dudes to procure when I think of a Corvette. You know how we all imprint certain feelings towards certain cars? Well you do if you are car guy IMO. In my mind it's the dudes car to pick up dudes in because I don't know ANY girls who would rather be picked up in a Vette than ANY Ferrari. I really am not sure where I got this implanted in my mind but it's there, maybe I am from a bygone era. Who knows? :) I hope I am not offending anyone, I am just sharing my opinion of my personal stigma with a Vette. Having said that I am not as homo-phobic as I was in my younger days and am at peace with myself so I could actually see myself having the new Vette...as a DD down the road.

The main problem with a Corvette, and I have to admit that the designs are getting better, is that each and every new model that comes out makes the last one look so lame and immediately dated. I think they are getting to a peak in design where it will be harder to make the last one look like rubbish as easily, but that is also burned into my mind.

Edit: You know, something just occurred to me, if Hollywood would be more of a partner with GM they could put the Vette in scenarios where the guy we all want to be is driving one. This would help to erode my personal stigma, but it would take quite a few years to burn in...if not a decade or so.

The C7 is the first time I've sat in a vette and didn't immediately think I accidentally sat in a silverado. They are great cars, the C7 Z06 is going to be an absolute beast.

Couldn't agree more! Don't get me wrong, I love Vettes and have a C6 ZO6 that I have turned into a race car that can hang with any Challenge F430 race car but the Vette is not special. I have "friends" at my dealer that pass it for state inspection so I can drive it on the street but it isn't that fun when not at the limit. The interior smells like old epoxy and there is very little steering feedback. It IS blindingly fast, cheep to maintain and a blast at the track. I may buy a used C7 Z down the road but this fall my money is going towards a Scud which is, in my opinion, a very special car and an "event" in itself.

I think you can see by now you were incorrect. There are many good car guys on this forum. The vette is a great car and perfect for some people. Only you can decide which way to go....

    Good luck

Our leader, Enzo Ferrari, is rolling over in his grave at the thought a Vette is being compared to a Ferrari...

    I once put a thread up "F430 v R8" and got 2 great replies:
    1) If you're comparing an Audi to a Ferrari, get the Audi.
    2) The valet will never park your Audi up front.

My dad loved Vettes, and I too have a stereotype of who drives them, it's my dad lol. Certainly Chevy has eclipsed those days, the new ones ARE beasts...an absolute ton of power, American made, muscle. The new one will possibly be the best we have ever seen - but I would rather take almost any Ferrari. The sound, lines, history, and heritage cannot be duplicated, and the sound is ...well you know.

That said, it really is 'to each his own'...your 360 has probably lost it's luster to you, someone will buy it, and renew that in it. Have you driven an F430?! OMG...I had a 360, and since the F430 looked mostly the same, I didn't realize the jump till I DROVE it...90 more HP, and the suspension is unreal...and the SOUND (mine has a Tubi but still). It's NOT as powerful as the Vette, but does anyone really give a s***? Lot's of cars are faster than lots of Ferrari's...means nothing. The jump from the 355 to 360, is the same from 360-430 (terms of performance, I actually think the 360 is more beautiful)... worth driving one.

The HP discussion and lap time talk gets old...they are ALL fast cars...I would urge you to drive a 430 before you drop $130k on a new Chevy that will hit hard on depreciation.

I see your viewpoint. I had the same type of quandary deciding to sell my 996TT to look for a 360. Then I realized that my hangup was chasing numbers. My 996TT could eat a 360/430 for breakfast, handled very well, and had very good reliability. I'm actually downgrading if you will to get into the 360. In probably all areas the 996TT would win. Same is holding true for the vette. There will always be faster, new, and better looking cars.

However, when I drove my first 360, it was a visceral experience. While all the performance numbers were just OK, the totality of the experience was exhilarating. So much more fun to drive than the Porsche. It was then I said that I had to have one. BTW still looking for a red 6-speed 360.

I've owned two vettes, 88 35th anniversary and an 02. Both were great fast exciting cars. But at the end of the day, it was still a Chevy. The GTR is an amazing supercar...but its a Nissan.

At the end of the day, it's what your looking to do. For me, I like the way a Ferrari stands out in looks and sound. I like the feeling of owning what is known worldwide as a supercar with and excellent racing heritage. I prefer the association with F1 vs Nascar. I'm not going to win any races, and I don't track my car so for me it's a no brainer.

360 is better looking but let's be honest the c7 z06 is a much better car. Also value wise, probably z06. I'd take it over a 360. But not over a 360CS, F430, 458, and newer

In my view, the posts to this thread have been fair, well thought out, and based on fact as well as opinion. But I just couldn't let go the remarks about Corvette interiors not being up to European standards and Corvettes depreciating faster and more than Ferraris. I have owned quite a few Corvettes over the years, old and new. I currently own a 1967 roadster, and recently sold a 1999 hardtop, for a little less than 2/3 of what I paid for it. In July of 2013 I bought a 2004 360 Spider with 10K miles on the clock. In my 12 years of ownership of the 1999 Corvette, the only problem I had was a burned out power window motor. The car looked exactly the same when I sold as when I bought it. After I owned the Ferrari for a couple of days, I noticed that all of the black dye had worn off of the driver side seat bolsters. More importantly, every switch, button, and knob in the interior-even the interior door handles-looked like they had melted! When I found out from two different Ferrari shops that the interiors of most 360s are like this, I was shocked. It doesn't cost much to have the seats re-dyed, but it would cost a couple thousand to send the switches, buttons, etc. out, so I am DIM, with help, over the long winter. Also, I was able to get a duplicate of my 360's window sticker, with the MSRP. The car has lost more than two-thirds of its value in ten years. I have admired Ferraris for many, many years, and I still do. But as far as I can see, much of their content is the same junk you will find on every day Fords and Chevrolets. They are incredibly expensive to buy and maintain, compared to Corvettes. What they do have over virtually all other cars is beauty, exclusivity, and an unbelievable WOW! factor.

I would disagree with that statement. I have also owned a C5 vette for about 7 years and while I never had a single mechanical failure, the parts and overall design were extremely rudimentary. It really does not compare to a Ferrari's design, unless you're talking about 80s versions.

I did love my vette though...cheap to maintain, somewhat cheap to upgrade, and extremely fun to drive.

I had a C5, not a bad car and not a great car. My girlfriend always reminded me the Vette essentially had the same interior that was in her 2000 Camaro V6..

C7 looks great on the outside, but the interior cmon man it's still cheap plastic everywhere reminds me of all other chevys interiors. I own a 360 and owned 69 stingray previously. I'd rather have a F430, Gallardo or an R8 for the Z06 pricing.

If you do buy a C7 Z06, my suggestion would be to go with the 8-speed auto. As counter-intuitive as it seems, I think it will make it a more exciting car to drive than the manual. Hopefully they tuned it similar to Mercedes' MCT (AMG's), which has similar shift times and provides plenty of smiles compliments of bazooka upshifts.

The long first gear and wide pedal spacing makes the manual in the Vette's a little boring, IMO. A pain in traffic and tough to toe-and-heel.

Interesting thread and mostly balanced..... As an owner of a ZR1 and a 430, they are both exciting cars to drive, each in their own right. I can't beat the ZR1 drive/sound with the exhaust open and 630HP - IMHO one of the finest cars GM has ever produced - a beast. The 430 is world-class and as a spyder, pure fun! The new vette looks like an amazing car - it's definitely the next generation....... It's fun to see the unveiling of the C7 line, is there a ZR1 on the horizon - what HP??? Maybe time to get a bigger garage????
