My 360 is barely used and when started 4 months ago it struggled to startup but eventually did. Now it will crank but wont start .. Tried to open the valve in the fuel rail and no fuel coming out from one side. Have not tried the other section yet. Wonder if its a fuel pump suppression issue or just dead pumps due to lack of use. Has anyone else had issues of the GUNK in Fuel Pump on these cars as all past cars I have had including the 355/348/456/550/Maseratis have fuel pump failure with long term storage. Is it just a case of unplugging the pump and pipes and using a remote battery to check the pump while its still in the tank? (I have the cable connectors from a spare loom I can use for the test. Another issue I have heard of due to lack of use is the oil/water heat exchanger failure under the air intake manifold. Any comments on it? My 2002 360 F1 has 18000 kms of which I just covered 6000 km in the past 8 years.
Are the fuel pumps white, or beige? If white, they are the original design and should be replaced with the improved beige ones anyway. Easy to get to, so not a difficult job.
First things first imho. 1. Are they getting electricity? If not check fuse and relay 2. Are they running? Maybe jump with 9v? 3. When you jump is fuel getting to rail? 4. The pump has a broad base with a built in filter. Could gunk I guess but if clean fuel used makes me wonder 5. Is the immobilizer active? Did you press the fob like a million times before you start? And the final obligatory: for god sakes man.. drive it more!
Struggled to get the pump out so need to ask , does the tank need to be relocated to get the pump out as it has no space to move with the triangular body structure oaround the B pillar in place. OR do you remove the metal plate which has the 8 mm bolts in order to pull out the pump. Any tips on fuel pump removal after access to the tank both pumps. The last time I did the work was with an Engine off service. As for the pump its DEAD. so new pump it is. Thought about replacing the cam belts at ssame time over the holidays now. What special tools should I order.
Just checked and fuel pump for right is surely dead. Likely the left too. Having pulled out the right side pump with a lot of force and twisting, I did find my WSM in the end and now know that the base plate needs to be removed in order to ge the pump out of the tank. Was thinking of doing cam belt service at the same time now over the holiday break. What special tools would you get for the cam belt service sicne my WSM has less than 2 paragraphs on this module.
