    So...looking around the great www i see that the 360 is called an f360 more often than not, and considering everything we read must be "true"....isn't the name Ferrari 360 Modena or spider and not a
    F360?

    Correct, F360 is not the correct name. Fore the past umpteen years Ferrari has tended to alternate using the F designation every other V8 model revision. 348, F355, 360 Modena, F430, 458 Italia.

    There are a lot of Modena Spiders out there too. Very unusual cars. I wonder if they get the top down by driving under a truck at a high rate of speed.

    I took the roof mounted A/C unit off the top of a camper once with a low railroad bridge. That was exciting. But my Spider came from the factory with a top that goes down.
