That´s a very big What If. Because apart from the guy on the left rear wheel issue, to win that title Hakkinen at least needed to be a bit faster when the rain started at Suzuka, shouldn´t had blown the engine at Indianapolis and needed to win the race at Malaysia, and neither of those things happened.

    But yes, enough what ifs.

Mika was very , very good, for some reason he smoked Senna in the first qualifying they held together at Estoril...not that it matered much since Alesi blast past both of them and everyone else at the start!!
In terms of Speed i don't think there was nothing between the 3 of them. Shumi and Alesi had a clear advantage in the rain over Mika (not that he was bad either) but Shumi had advantage over both in terms of developing a car and being able to extract the most of the entire team. Also i think Shummi was the best at laping consistently at qualifying level dut«ring the whole race, to me this was his biggest strength. I think on ocasio Mika was faster, and jean had a acr control "out of this world" but Shumi was simply the "complete package", and with the best team in f.1 history he simply become imbeatable.
