Do bag tanks have a date stamp and is it possible to see fairly easily? Comments appreciated. I can't find anything in the history that says they have been changed but want to check just incase.

    Hi John,

I thought they were stamped on the bag. I believe mine are due next year. Are you going for official Ferrari ones or the ATLS? I think there is about a £5,000 difference. Bulk buy/service together!?

Hope all is well - must go for another F40 blast ....

Henry ! I was wondering why there were no comments to this but US F40's don't have bag tanks they they have solid aluminium ones and most of the F chat owners are US. Anyway , the ATL ones are approx £3500 for two . Ferrari UK quoted me £3100 for the left tank and £3,800 for the other (don't know why they must be different?!). Anyway thats double so will be going for the ATL ones. Every one does apparently and its fine for resale (they make the tanks for most of the F1 cars). In addition bank on £1500 - £2000 to fit. Just had new cambelts fitted and a full service inc plugs. The beast goes faster than ever !! Might take it to the Silverstone classic if the weathers good on Sun 27th.

I might be barking up the wrong tree here but I understand that the ATL bag tanks are only warranted for 5 years as opposed to 10 years for the Ferrari ones. I am not sure whether there is an insurance implication here or whether the insurance co should be informed as a modification.

Matt - you are quite right about their life lenght. However my insurance company are happy with either.

John it does make you think though 10 years is better than 5!! Interesting about your perfomance improvement. Mine wasn't running right until we changed both sensors to both banks. Enormous difference!! Now that Tubi.......

It might be worth contacting 'Albert V8' he has a UK F40 that had ATLS tanks fitted but during some subsequent work by Ferrari these were found to be leaking/ incompatiable in someway, can't remember exact details but I'm sure Albert will confirm

Good idea about Fitting Usa tanks but not sure about the originality aspect and resale. F40's are now investment category vehicles and any car that is modified / crashed is discounted ( like the Bonhams F40 GTM at the Festival of Speed auction £183,000 - both modified and crashed). I will phone ATL tomorrow about the 5yr life. My understanding is that they are FIA certified and that the FIA say bag tanks have to be changed every five yrs in racing cars but that might not mean that the only have a factory certified life of 5yrs. I'll let you know when I've spoken to them.

Regarding the fire thing with ATL tanks, I heard this story and was told that it was due to poor workmanship by the mechanic ie he didn't tighten things up properly. But lets here it from Albert V8 if he's had problems. There were certainly alot of F40's fitted with ATL tanks when I was looking a couple of years ago and at that time ATL were not pleased that people were saying that the burnt F40 was down to their tanks. Seems abit unlikely as they make tanks for F1 cars ...........But I do find it difficult to get excited about spending £7,000 on two condoms that have Ferrari written on them. Now £1200 for a tubi could get me excited..........
