What are the best brakes to put on the F40 as an upgrade from the originals. Must fit with the original wheels. Thanks

Two comments: (1) the original brakes are fine, you just have to stand on them - requires a change in your driving style; (2) the only proven brake upgrade is getting the larger 355mm brakes with a dual reservoir system (aka the Brembo big brake upgrade or F50 brake upgrade or 360GT brake upgrade) - this is what Francisco is referring to.

I've driven both and the big brake upgrade is worth it only if you're going to regularly track your car and are a seriously quick driver.

This, for 99.5% of all F40 owners.

I guess I was in the .5%! Most F40 drivers do not push their cars and very few have the skills to get the most out of the car (I did not either). I put thousands of track miles on my F40 and the entire brake system was inadequate for and kind of serious activity.

Brembo used my F40 for brake development and had the car for three months, we brought in Brembo engineers and rented Buttonwillow and brought in a stock F40 for comparison.

It wasn't until we went to a dual master setup that we could get the car to stop the way it should.

FYI you can't run factory wheels, they wont clear the larger brakes.

Joe is correct, for most people the brakes are adequate. But brakes are the cars biggest weakness...

Forza Magazine did a 5 page article on my F40 and we brought in my friend Peter Brock to write the article...

I wrote the following in 2010...:

Factory F40 brakes suck. PERIOD. The factory rotors are terrible and dangerous.

Replacing any part with Factory parts is a waist of time and money.

Unless you just drive the car like its a Prius, you should upgrade the Calipers, Rotors that is about $3,200 for a basic upgrade, you should also spec titanium pistons in the calipers for additional heat dissipation. For maximum braking you will need a dual Master setup as the factory master is simply not capable of stopping the car with larger calipers.

By the way, the Brembo setup was developed for my F40. Look in Forza magazine for the article by Peter Brock on this upgrade.

We offer a machined dual master cylinder setup based on a Tilton pedal assembly if you're interested. I know the Michelotto one is hard to get ahold of.

I would also stay away from drilled rotors unless you're racing in the rain they just make it more likely to suffer a failure.
