I have tried googling this but ended up inundated with information on production numbers instead.

I was looking over a friend's F40 in detail the other day and noticed a Build Number on the tub quite close to the chassis number. What is it's significance? Does it denote the actual place in the production sequence - would car 60 be the 60th F40 made, for example?

It is the assembly number. That is basically the order the cars are built in by Ferrari (or at least the order they start the build process). It is across all models though so 01234 might be an F40 and 01235 might be a 328.

Are you sure it is not just for the particular model? This F40 is literally 000**.

My 1994 348 TS Spider assembly number is exactly 14000. I'm trying to figure out the significance of this too.

    Anyone?
