(ms) ------------ The dude was totaly drunken and lost the controll of his F40. I do not understand German, So I just relay on your english words. By the way it is good to see that someone could walk away from that in good health enough to fight with the Police. Ferrari are strong little ladies... By the way I hope that this guy will spend the next period (longgggg one) in jail for: - Being a total Idiot (Criminal offence by itself); - Drink and Drive; - Having destriyed un irreplaceable piece of art. Ciao Eugenio
Well said Eugenio, he will not go to jail but he will loose his driving licence for many, many years....!!!!! The F40 will be rebuilt!!! Here is the story to another F40 which has been totaly crashed and a german dude did an awesome great & perfect restauration, sorry its in german but lots of pics. http://www.ferrarif40.de/cms/front_content.php?idcat=6 ...just click at the end of the text, right down on "mehr" ...or check out the pic link direct: http://www.ferrarif40.de/cms/front_content.php?idcat=28&lang=1&client=1
Didn't Walter Röhrl total a freind's F-40 a few years back? I seem to recall it was the road's fault or the car's fault or the other driver's fault or the weather's fault. Certainly it wasn't Walter's fault as he was poodling along doing 45km/h and concentrating on the traffic and other road users at the time .... honestly, Officer! Or am I confusing it with something written by the Grimm brothers?
How stupid is it possible to get !?!?!??! Really sad $h!t... Do you know of any other links/pics to this story Wolfgang??
Wolfgang, That is a great story about that F40. Do I understand it right? Did the guy give the car away to the other fellow?
The normal German way is that, in the case of an insurance write-off, the insurance company pays the full value to the owner. The Insurance company then puts a "scrap" price on the article itself. This is usually very low, otherwise it would fall into the category of insurance corruption (i.e. the company has already admitted that the entire value of the car has been written off, so it can't then say that the car is worth something after all!) Then anyone can buy the remains for this scrap value. Usually the owner gets first refusal as he knows when the insurance company has released the scrap for sale. As the article talks of a release by the insurance, this is probably what happened, non? The fine dividing line is between an "engineering write off" (burned out and only scrap metal left) and an "economic write-off". This guy basically rebuilt it in his spare time. The insurance company, however, calculate the costs of those rebuild hours and write the car of financially.
It is almost an unbelievable story! The guy sees the accident happen and gets the totalled F40. Awesome.
OK... anyone willing to buy this F40 off the insurance then? IT would be a fantastic F-chat restoration project. Anyone brave enough? I am willing to help with the work, seriously. Regarding the driver: TOTAL IDIOT. Everyone knows the F40 is a very difficult car even when you are sober and the roads are sunny & warm - to even think of driving one when it's winter, cold, icy AND you are totally drunk means you don't deserve such a car. I bet it was his dad's hard-earned car, this idiot probably never worked a day in his life and is probably one of those idle rich kids that spend their lives sponging off cash & nice cars from their rich parents. I hope nobody will ever let him near a supercar again.
...for 0,00 Euro `cause it was already 100% payed to the owner from the insurance company But....the rebuilt costs.........
Environmental laws in Germany (although not quite as bad as Scandinavia!) would probably have meant it was cheaper to rebuild than to scrap! LOL!
don't judge so hard over this drunken fool, he is punished enough and we don't know what really happened. Wonder if Christian could rebuild this car as well. The roof and frame seems to be smashed so nasty forza cinque
Yes - what a tragedy... I really don't give a damn for the moron behind the wheel, but weep for the car. A sad day, and you hit the nail on the head Eugenio - "an irreplaceable work of art". NOW...I like the idea of an F-Chat project!! Wolfgang - find out more if you can, I'm sure that an F-Chat syndicate could sponsor a rebuild by Herr Fehr! It would be great to part of the resurection of such a rare beauty. Cheers, MARK
That id of a Fchat restoration sounds not bad!! We could do something with "stock options" here and raise enough money to rebuild it and save an incredible supercar for the future.
