Today was the blessed event , My F40 arrived & she is a beauty. & ferocious too. The acceleration is SO fierce that I can feel the blood leaving my face & gathering in the back of my head Only kept it in 2nd gear most of the day & barely got into the boost. Too early & too scarey still. RE the brakes do Stink, Just ordered some nice Porterfield pads to get me by until I can slap some F50 brakes on her so she has Whoa to go with the Go Down side is the battery was almost dead & I had to jump it twice with my Corvette which my friend was driving. So going to check the alternator & shes going to the shop tommorow to get stuff fixed And of course the Hurricane is coming maybe as soon as Friday so no driving the F40 for me till next Weds after I drop her off tommorow
Congrats man! You've been looking forward to the F40 for ages. Can't wait to see her. Do i smell a sighting at Lime Rock Ferrari days?
Congratulations! I must admit I am laughing right now! You messaged me about what happened to my F40 on the track at Laguna Seca and I just did not get a chance to answer till now..... well it was the alternator! I ran out of juice! You replace the alternator from inside the car, just remove the drivers seat and remove the back panel. The alternator is a Delco unit off of a '91 Cadillac, I paid $143.00 in Monterey for mine or you can buy the exact same one from FNA for $1,300.00! I am really happy for you William! Chris
Oh, you can use an OPTIMA battery in your F40, you just have to leave the battery cover off, I think it looks cool without it and it makes car alot lighter! lol
Hi Chris, good to know it was just the alternator, I was worried you had blown the engine by overboosting or something This sure is a crazy car, I was just in 2nd gear all day but it still managed to get sideways & break traction a few times Chris do you have that Insurance info ? Did they raise your rates a lot ? I'll get photos up ASAP After the Hurricane passes
William, Before spending a great amount on the brakes you might want to rethink the order that things are done. Better ducting to the rear brakes and a dual master seems to be working nicely on John Moores F-40. This car sees some extensive track use and John is one heck of a tallented driver. The brakes are now said to be effective with these two mods and Porterfield pads. Dave
Does anyone know how much the dual master cyc system will cost and where can you get the parts required? If possible, please provide info about the cost and where we can get the parts when we discuss modifications. It will make life easier for those who want to do the same. thks
Hi Chris, which model 91 Caddy or were they all the same ? What year is your F40 ? Did they all use the same alternator. There are 3 different alternators for the TRs
I believe they all use the same alternator, my car is a '91 but I think they actually all use the same one. I took mine to a parts store and they picture matched it to an in-stock Delco, you do have to swap the pully and fan, but the mounting points and the electrical plugs are exact. The one from FNA is EXACTLY the same, it has DELCO stamped on it as well, but they do not have a part number on them. Wayne Obrey (sp?) from Motion Products told me it was a '91 Cadillac alternator, but I do not know what model. I believe it is the same one used on early 348's. My insurance premium on the F40 has not been finalized, I will let you know.
The dual set-up is custom fabricated, I believe mine came in around $2,000.00. The machine work was nearly a $1,000.00 then two Brembo Master Cylinders, a Tilton Balance bar and then remote tanks and braided stainless flex lines.
william congrats on the ultimate dream. here are some pics of william's exact car to tide you all over before he posts his own. 141 pics. http://supercarfreak.net/gallery/album426?page=2
