Yeah - that was weird. It stopped working part way through the run, and then starting working again a few seconds later. It's never given me any problems before, and none since. Dunno if the sending unit freaked out or what.

    Steve,

The glitch may have been caused by the magnetic induction pickup lead that the dyno shop attached to the ignition system to acquire the engine RPM data....

    Gary

PS: Your F40 rocks... I was amazed by your dyno numbers. Ferrari rates that engine at 478 HP at the flywheel, yours pulled 490 HP at the tires, which works out to around 575 HP at the engine (using a 15% drivetrain loss factor).

    Steve,
It looks like you were useing 91 octane. You would be suprised how much more boost/power it would have made with 100 unleaded. That and putting fans on the intercooler help a lot.
Looks cool. Thanks for the post.

    Rick

    Can you post a graph?

Yes - I was using 91 octane. I want to try 114 leaded when I do my next run. I put a link to my graphs on my dyno day post. I'd love any feedback.

That makes sense, and explains why I've never seen it before or since. :)

Nice solid dyno curves!! Must be a blast to have that kind of power with only ~2500 lbs holding it back!

Be cautious about having TOO much octane however, as that can kill power also. If you are going to be in the 22 psi range, pure 114 octane would be too much. Try mixing 50/50 with premium 93 or whatever you have. It will cause your air fuel ratio to go considerably leaner, which will require adjustment, but you can also get away with a leaner ratio when you have race gas.

Even at the same boost setting, you could probably pick up at least 20 RWHP with a mix of race gas, and lots more if you increase the boost.

Cool video. It's always fun to watch a Ferrari screaming on the dyno.
IMO the F40 is still THE Ferrari supercar.
