I know it only has 3800km but its still very expensive when you consider they are going for around $500K in Europe. :(

That thing has been for sale forever,

it has been on the ferrariaus web site for at leas a year but it used to be on there for $850000.

i think that is probably a bit steep, when you consider that you could bring one in from EU as a 15 year import for a fraction of that cost.

    but i may be wrong

They sell here now for mid $500k with duty and taxes paid I think. That particular car has been for sale forever, and at that new reduced price is likely to stay for sale for some time. Isn't it Laurie Sutton's car? He was the first to get one in Aus...I was the second.

Yeah it's Laurie Sutton's car. Prices are all over the shop; but you could get one for $500k all up. Several have been sold in the last few years around the $600k mark

Wasn't the Sutton car the one that had the lighting gantry fall on it at the Sydney motor show a few years back? I heard it went back to Ferrari for repairs and cost a pretty packet too. If that's the car, it seems like a very high price to me for previosly damaged goods.

I know it's a boring subject, but how much tax/duty would you have to pay to bring one of these F40's from Germany or the UK.
Does the fact it cannot be registered make a difference ??

My limited understanding is that import duties/taxes are not based on whether the vehicle can be registered or not. BTW my other half is a Yasmin too. Not a common name here, especially spelled with the Y. I thought you were her for a minute, until I checked your profile.

Yeah, that's the same car. I don't believe it was badly damaged and I recall there is a photo ot it on the wrecked exotics website.
The thing with repainting the carbon fibre bodied cars (F40/50 and Enzo) is that they never look "right" afterwards. When factory fresh, you can see the weave of the fibres under the paint. This is an art to replicate, especially if only doing a partial repaint. Easy to detect for the trained eye and it makes a difference in the super exotic resale market where garage Queeens are rewarded.
I am not sure if the Sutton car went back to the factory for repairs; but it didn't "NEED" to go there for the minor damage sustained.

Correct. Makes no difference that you can't register the car here. The primary design intent of the F40 was as a road car and it is used as such in most markets. Therefore ALL the relevant taxes and duties for a road car of that age apply. The only thing you don't get hit with is stamp duty for putting it "on the road".

When I liven the UK I bought my F40 from Belgium but only after extensive searches by my Ferrari Specialist who visited Germany and France before we found the car in Belgium. The difficulty is finding a car with a balance of mileage, usage and condition. I wanted an unmodified car that had been used for club events with a realistic mileage but not raced. I wanted to use my F40 for club events and special trips like the annual pilgrimage to Le Mans. The mint cars with low mileages can often turn out to be racers that had the original body panels, seats and under hood storage bays etc removed when newish being replaced by Fibre glass body parts and raced. When the cars are sold the original panels seats odometer etc are refitted and they look mint "Buyer Beware", this is why you need a specialist to help.
I am sending my F40 back to the UK for sale as I cannot see anyone in AUstralia buying a car that cannot be registered only on a daily basis for special events after much pleading and form filling. The owners club here in QLD has been very helpful but I have given up now and the F40 will be homeward bound in March. Picture from a chateau window in Orbec on the 2004 trip to Le Mans. No the headlamp is not damaged it is a reflection.

That's very interesting indeed, thanks for posting. There definitely IS a market for the F40 here in Australia, albeit small. There are 2-3 cars inward bound to Melbourne right now. One was sold last month from Melbourne to QLD (Ex Tambay & mint).

What is the specification, mileage, year etc on your car? What do you hope to get for it?

My F40 is 1989 Non Cat, Non Adjust with wind up windows. Originally owned by a farmer in Belgium I purchased the car and took it back to the UK. The car has a high mileage for an F40 but I wanted a car to use and used F40s do not have all the silly little problems that low mileage F40 suffer. The other advantage is they are less expensive. I purchased it with 35000km and it now has 46000 km. Like all the Ferraris I have owned it was driven on a regular basis to club events and the Le Mans Pilgrimage. I also did 2 demonstration hill climbs at Harewood in Yorkshire (1.5km each). This is a venue where I competed regularly with my 328GTS in the Ferrari Hillclimb Championship. There used to be a picture in the UK owners site. The car is standard except for the slotted brakes and the stainless steel exhaust.
The car had a full cam belt service plus the following in July 2004.
    1. The weak point of standard F40s is the brakes so the drilled disks have been replaced by slotted disks on floating hubs. The calipers were also overhauled by Brembo to bring back the progressive feel.
    2. Fitted a new stanless steel sports exhaust made in UK which sounds and looks better than a Tubi.
    3. The bag tanks were replaced (a bit later than the 10 yrs recommended by Ferrari) and are now good til 2014 to keep the insurers happy. The tanks only degrade if not used regularly but if not changed can give the insurers a get out.
    4. New tyres were fitted as old tyres go hard and are dangerous.

As far as price is concerned I am asking £150,000 UK but if it was purchased in Australia then duty and GST would have to be paid on top but that can be arranged.
Anyone interested can view the car in QLD by contacting me by email at [email protected] or on 07 3820 7696. Ray Helm drove the car at the Queensland Raceway just before CHristmas and he seemed to enjoy it. I also went on a very enjoyable breakfast run to Tambourine Mountain a few weeks ago with the Queensland Ferrari Owners.
