I need a few questions answered.

1-Is the car officially called the GTE or LM GTE, I have heard officially it is the LM GTE.

2-Are these all the official race F40's that were made? I'm not talking about any "conversions" and such. As far as I know the only factory based race F40's were the GT's, LM's and LM GTE's.

3-We all know road going F40's were made from '87-'92, so....

How were the GT's and LM's made? I assume they were all made during the production run, and have there own VIN's?

How were the F40 LM GTE's made? I have read they were made in '94, '95, '96 and '98. How was this done? Did they upgrade LM's to LM GTE's? But if that was the case wouldn't the VIN's show them as LM's? Or were these made from regular F40's? But again wouldn't the VIN's show that? Or were these cars made with all surplus factory parts?

    Any help would be great!!!!

Take a look at QV500.com, but:

    1. "officially" doesn't really apply to these cars. GTE was the engine spec. There are 6 "official" GTEs but only 3 of them have the full house EVO2 Aero, CF brakes and sequential gearbox.

    2. No F40 is a factory race car, they are all conversions. The LMs/GTEs are made by Michelotto.

    3. The cars were mostly made from Chassis provided by Ferrari, but some cars were converted from Street ferraris 85015 for example was a US Model F40 and is now generally accepted as one of the GTEs, but has a regular gearbox and LM-style body work.

    here some additions..:
1.- i think the last cars where noted as GT/E.
on the build sheet of 88779 ,Michelotto also wrote F40 GT/E....
But,and here are some exceptions, the sheet of 85015 shows F40LM...
the one of 92237 and 88520 shows F40 Corsa.....
What i know, and i see them on a few invoices, the F40 LM was called F40 LM Competizione Prototipo.

2.All cars are Michelotto build racecar's ,but with help and support of the factory...remember as the first Pozzi F40LM's raced in the USA ,togheter with the Michelotto guys and Pozzi members also some factory technician where there...and also the Truck was from Ferrari...

3.the "real" racing F40's have VIN like this: ZFFGX34X000 092237.
please note the X in the VIN.....

Well when I say "factory" I mean Michelotto because they made the race cars for Ferrari.

So, the ones that were "converted" from street F40's and weren't new chassis' have VIN's that show them as "regular" F40's or were they given new VIN's that show them as race cars?

    Thanks for the help!

So the VIN's of these two "race" F40's show them as "street" F40's?

If this is the case, are these two considered "official" or "conversions" with Ferrari?

Thanks, you've been a big help as well!

FYI I just read about some F40 Competizione's that were also raced.

Although these cars are totally converted and NOT official from what I have read....

    Hi Ryan,

i think, and i'm not sure what the factory mean, that these two cars are "official" .
Well, perhaps now are considered as conversions and on that time as official....
Only the factory and the current owner could help about this now.
    regards
    ivo
