Hi guys I had our F40 out the other week and had the tail gate up when the rod that supports it broke at its mounting point. The tail stayed up (thankfully as i was under it) but where the rod is mounted into the kevlar has broken and split the Kevlar pulling the whole bracket down and out.

Has anyone else heard of this happening? How on earth can it be fixed? Any suggestions?

    Thank you in advance.

    Henry.

Glad you are ok, That hatch can be scarey. Never heard of it failing like that but I can see why

You'll have to take it to a cf specialist to fix that. What part of the country are you in ? I know people in NY, CT, FL, and maybe CA that may be able to help

Are you involved w Year One parts co ?

Henry: this is a malady unique to the European/ROW F40 that does not have the reinforced rear valance, and there will be no shortcut other than having a composite materials specialist shop effect a proper repair. As Jim says, DK Engineering in Watford can do it, and in fact you are better off using a shop with F40 experience.

The USA F40 has the engine brace's mounting hardware affixed to the DOT-mandated reinforced valance, and even though the USA car's rear (upper) hood is much heavier (also reinforced), I have never encountered this type of failure, which by the way is a source of liability to any F40 owner should a child or (god forbid) a mechanic get injured by the failure of the brace or its mounting points. You are a smart man to not have left the unit unattended when open (I never do) and therefore you were able to save the inevitable damage that would have resulted to the upper hood should it have come crashing down. Give yourself peace of mind and get it repaired properly.
