    Hi all,

I've bought a 1/18 transkit by Meri to rebuild a stock Bburago F40 into an F40 LM racer. I was wondering if I could use a Mattel F40 instead. Has anyone done this yet? Any advice appreciated.

    Best, Peter

You can also apply to the HW F40, it has minor adjustment on it... it won't be hard

And once you're done and proud of your 1/18 F40 LM you can post pics here and you will be rewarded with lots of hateful comments from the 1/43 crowd. Isn't life wonderful?

I used to show pics of my 1/18 mods including the F40 LM and was told they are basically toys. Kinda put out my fire for the collectables forum.

If you don't mind, could you post pics of the LM? This is probably the Ferrari model I want most. In 1/18 of course. It's the only scale I collect. :)

Edit: Btw, that toy comment, I had "toys" when I was a kid. The cars were matchbox. Very similiar size to 1/43 if you know what I'm getting at. ;)

Who could say that? Hell some of the 1/12 stuff makes it all look like toys!

And the scale makes no differences....it's more so who makes it.

Manufacturer is Meri Kits from Italy. The kit is called Ferrari F40 Racing 3000 Turbo. I have the Totip version but I don't think I'm going for that livery but just plain red without sponsorship.

The Tremonia kits are photo etched parts only AFAIK. Scuderiamodelli also has complete kits like the one I bought with wheels, new nose, spoilers etc.

And for the lazy collector: MG Model makes a ready built F40 LM in 1/18 but it's expensive compared to a transkit.

I don't care about the 1/43 brigade. Smaller scale equals less detail and accuracy to me (and most of the time they don't sit right).

Here three pictures: The first one is the "before" shot as I bought the model already "modded", but without the transkit. The other two pics are after I was done with it. My biggest challenge was to match the blue paint. If you start with a car from scratch you don't have that problem.

1/18 or 1/43 is almost a philosophical question. Both have + and -. I'm just getting ticked off if a 1/43 aficionado calls 1/18 cars toys.

^Cool! From what I can see, new hood, wheels, antenna on roof, plexi windows, and possibly new rear plexi window?

Are the wheels able to move normally or are they fixed? Do you know if there's a place that sells the thinner-spoked GTE wheels? I'd like to make a red LM with the GTE wheels. :)

And a few more changes like fuel caps, rear diffuser and exhaust plates.

Wheels are fixed. But that really depends on the donor car. Some just snap off some break off. Check ebay for the wheels or maybe islandcollectibles.com.

Awesome, thanks! Do you know if they bolt on normally and still move or do they have to be fixed to the car and can't rotate?

They are fixed and don't rotate - but they still look cool. I got mine from a french website and they are in stock. It's a good website and they have lots of cool wheels!
