I'm not sure if this is a genuine auction or not and you'll have to go to France to collect it but Ebay Item number: 280624049148
hello you can oder a new set made for you to the original maker, schelloni in italy, the result is fantastic and the price cheaper of the cost of the set in the auctions, in 20/30days you recive the complete set, new, made for you with the ferrari bages, and exactilly the same of the kits sold by ferrari
Having a new set made is like doing a reproduction 250 gto in 1982. Even if the original coach builder produced it, its still a fake. It only took 20 years for fake F40 parts to appear! It has no history or relationship to the car it was shipped with. I think I'm going to start the F40 luggage registry. We'll only accept original luggage with the original owners name on the tag. No remonogramed or reproduced luggage allowed. Someday the packing tape used on the luggage box will be as coveted as a daytona clock tag!
the seller obviously has problems with the way ebay works - and how to end an "auction" he probably thinks an ebay auction is a "make serious offer" kind of thing where he can bail out if the offers do not meet his expectations meanwhile the description text says: NE PAS ENCHERIR that means: "do not bid"
I'm not sure if this is supposed to be facetious or not, but I don't see the problem in having a set made ... it's not like the alternative (a set purchased through ebay) will have any "history and relationship" to the car. So the only real alternative is never having fitted luggage? And that being said, if the original supplier makes the pieces to the original specifications, I don't think I'd call them fake. Take the GTO example ... if I offered Ferrari an enormous amount of money to dig out the original bucks, molds, etc. and build me a GTO to original 1962 specifications, it would be a 'real' GTO. Not one of the original 39, mind you, but it would be real. The only thing that would make it fake is if I were to misrepresent it as one of the original cars.
I have an original set if someone is interested. Been meaning to put it on ferrariads for a long time. Not the set original to the car I sold a while back.
Getting all hot and bothered about the originality of luggage sets is totally ridiculous... Does anyone believe an F40 will be devalued at auction if it comes up for sale with reproduction luggage? No, didn't think so.
???? There's no identification marks on luggage pieces to tell WHICH F40 it came with..... Surely this is toungue in cheek post. Besides, the lining crumbles with age, so the newer set would last much longer.
I'm pretty certain Simon's old F40 had the serial number on the big round luggage piece...at least from what I remember of old photos I took of it. Benny's F40 had his name on them. Maybe it was optional.
As far as I know Benny Caiola ordered the luggage separately from Ferrari after he got his F40,since he was a second owner of that car.
