Hi Just doing some work on an F40, Ferrari UK have just told us that the ferrari oil filter for an f40 has been discontinued and everyone I searching for an alternative. Apparently there is no obvious alternative? They are looking at getting an adaptor made up to fit an alternative filter. Any insight, suggestions or alternatives greatly appreciated. Thanks Mark
Eurospares seems to have them in plentiful supply: Ferrari F40 - OIL FILTER/Part No. 130622 £25.60 Each I just bought some from them.
Hi Update - thought i would beat Ferrari UK to it! I am having our engineering shop make new threaded unions (part number 42 in the diagram below) to fit the F40 housing, but take a F360 filter on the other thread. So the thread on the housing side is identical to the original F40 and on the oil filter side it while fit a Ferrari 360 oil filter - much bigger thread on the oil filter side but fortunately the circumference of the oil filter and "o" is identical to that needed for an F40 housing. Should be ready in a few days, hopefully that will solve the supply problem given F360 filters look identical and are readily available. If the F40 filters go back into production, you can easily swap the original union back on to the housing at the next filter change. Will post a few pictures when i get them back from engineering. cheers Mark Riverside Performance Engineering Ltd
Hi, here are some pictures of the new union we have engineered to fit the original F40 housing and take the readily available Ferrari 360 oil filter. The thicker thread is the end that goes in the new filter. The modification is completely reversible without any difficulty, just keep the original F40 union and change back at the next filter change if the F40 filters go back in to production. The original F40 union is the darker one with oil in the threads. They have been machined out of one piece of hex shape steel tube. You will want to make sure the bypass spring pressure in the 360 filter is similar to the F40 filter to be sure it's really compatible.
Hi Mark. would be interested in a few of those unions, any chance you could message me P&A. cheers Trev
Hi Mark. Just wondering if a 173929 360 union would fit the f40 housing, If not i would be interested in a few of your unions.
HI, sorry for the slow reply, been busy fitting out the new workshop. We checked all the pressure and temperature tolerance on the oil filters we are using versus the original, and we are satisfied that everything is well within the original operating environment of the F40. We even chopped an old and a new filter in half to check if there was anything unusual in the internals - everything as normal. The car has been driven hard now for a few days and everything is working perfectly. cheers Mark Riverside Performance Engineering Ltd
Hi, great minds think alike! that was the first thing we tried, as the F40 housing on appearance is almost identical to that of a 360, but the 360 union thread would not go into the F40 housing is a different size. Manufacturing was the only option. One main dealer is doing the same thing so they can use a 360 filter, but i was informed they will not be able to sell the remade union as it is not a Ferrari part....and we couldn't be bothered waiting so we made our own!
Hi, i never made them with the view to selling them, but i am sure i can price them up. We made 6 from the steel hex tube i had, i am sure i can make a few mare fairly quickly. I need to keep a few in stock as we have a few F40 through the door every month. Let me work out a price and i will be back. thanks Mark Riverside Performance Engineering Ltd
I think parts for F40 will start to become scarce. I recently needed some ignition leads and the only seller in the US was 3 times the factory price (except the factory had none). I found them in Italy at the proper price, but it was not easy.
You can get them straight from the manufacturer in Italy for normal prices. Way less than what Ferrari charges for them. That said, I agree with your opinion on F40 parts and have been stock piling all sorts of spares, even body work.
Hi i have put some more into production, so will offer a few out to members. PM me if interested, i have already sent a message to members that have shown an interest. many thanks Mark
Hi, all the replacement oil filter unions I had are now gone, apart from 2 i am keeping for a current service and one coming in next week. So there is clearly a demand as others realise the filters are no longer available. I am going to have another 10 made this week, so no problems. cheers Mark
