And this picture illustrates why 308s and F40s overheat in the snow.

There use to be a guy in Columbus Ohio with an F50. He would put snow tires and chains on it in the winter and drive around in the Ohio snow storms.

Said he liked to go out on the highway in the middle of a really bad storm as he would be only one on road and would blast around like a rally driver!

As F Scott Fitzgerald said "The rich are different from you and I".

This is also what I used to believe, until I learned the GTO Evoluzione was actually meant to participate to the group B CIRCUIT championship, which never happened. When you think of it, that car could not have been made for dirt roads, it's definitely a circuit car.

The 959 was also meant for group B circuit racing rather than rallying.

Porsche however pumped it up somewhat and later competed in the Paris Dakar rally with the car.

I don't think the 288 or F40 would look as good though high up in the air on huge mudpluggers! :) so luckily Ferrari did not go down that route.

Saw the video linked from Petrolicious on Facebook...

I just love seeing the driver place the can inside the car as he runs his checklist. I loved the video.

The idea of a F40 high up in the air on huge mudpluggers, in my view, is as crazy as an F40 converted to a monster truck with huge off-road tires, or a F40 made as a transformer (from the 1980s TV series) !!! Both are my childhood dreams when I was 8 years old !!! LOL

Question : Don't tire chains actually hit the inside of the fenders when they spin fast ?? I thought that tire chains works only up to 60 km/h and very often caused damage to the fenders... If the F40 was not wearing chains, but rather had tires with spikes, I think there would be no damage...

They did the same event last year, but with studded snow tires. Not sure what justifies the switch to chains this year around though.
