I know, more people should do less talking and picture taking and drive their cars more often. Maybe they are just afraid it will break and they won't be able to sell it as easily? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVl40Aghesk
You and me both, i would love to have a piece off of an F40 that has some real racing background...or any F40 really. The F40 is definately my favorite Ferrari of all time, followed by the 330 P3/4.
I would be happy to share something off my F40.... yes its definately my favorite too. Joe www.joesackey.com
Does someone have any pics (non-promo) of one of the prototype F40s? I remember that one of them was at Ferrari of Dallas back when the showroom was in Richardson, TX. This would have been back in late 1999 or early 2000, i had just entered college and i would drive by a couple times a month to see what was new. I don't know if my memory is great on this, but...i talked to someone up there at the time about it. 5 vents vs 4 on the back, 20 small slots vs 11 larger ones on the engine cover. I believe it had some red lights up next to where the license plate mounts. Oh...and it made a bit more power. I believe he told me it sold for around 1.3m.

Reminds me of my very good friend paul... he fully intends on giving his daughter a 650 hp Z06 for her 16th birthday :-0
Writerguy is the one to talk to about that. I think he probably has more photos of it than anyone. Here is a video about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_6bPI0dTyk

Some great pics in this thread! I just wish the banter back and forth between a few of you would stop. IMO it is ruining more then one thread on here....
Here's a quick summary of F40 prototypes, although I cannot be held responsible for its 100% accuracy http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2007/05/03/days-of-ferrari-day-xvi/

Here's a pic of Gerald John's 1990 F40 86056....very gracious nice fellow that I met at a concours believe it or not....anyway, you will notice the red prop rod holding up the rear body work. As F40 owners know, the stock F40 prop rod is notoriously flimsy. Its a wonder it hasn't decapitated someone at somepoint, and is one of the reasons I never leave the rear hatch open and unattended at shows or displays. The red prop rod actually has a bit of minor history to it. These rods were made by Karosserie in King of Prussia PA back when F40's were first coming into the US. Karosserie did some work on multiple F40's for FNA, and at times had 6 or 7 F40's in the shop together. They made this rod with a "C" shaped end to fit over the wastegate pipe of the exhaust system, while the other end just went into the slot at the top as usual. I spoke with Rick at Karosserie today, and he still makes them to order. If you are interested, give him a call at 1-610-279-8925. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice, finally a bit of useful information in these threads that wasn't scanned out of an old parts manual. Thanks for sharing. Question though... Since my car has been modified to near worthless, sub-standard conditions with my "horrible Tubi" LM pipe, do you think the nicer prop rod will still work? Or should I just scrap the whole car now?
