An F40 will be auctioned off soon absolute Goverment sale. 23K miles, lots of upgrades, big brakes, intercoolers, tubi, springs, shocks, wheels, about 50K in all. Suppose to have major done.

What should a car like this with 23K bring in this rising market? Is low milage everything? Higher milage will not bother me, as I would plan to double it in the first year. Collect stocks, bonds, and real estate...these cars should be driven and not treated like a drepression era grandmothers savings account.

My uneducated guess would be a bit less than 300k$ for such a car .

    + : Upgrades
    - : "High" Mileage and prob Track miles .

Do gvt auctionned cars fetch as much as in the open market ?

I thought it was a '+' to have an all-original car, with no extra added?

It depends . F40s upgrade are worth quite a lot of money if they are the real thing ( Michelotto , Brembo Brakes .. )

There is a market for both : Original car and Track car.

I am going to guess around $325K. Let us know what it ends up going for.

I think a couple other F-chatters are going to that auction, too, but I think mainly for the 512M. It's hard to say imo what it will go for because I don't think the auction people will let you do a PPI let alone drive it (please correct me if I'm wrong). I'll say 285k-305k because of a lot of uncertainty on the mechanical condition and some unclear history. I doubt the original owner will be standing next to his repo'd car answering all questions, truthfully at that :D

I know of a very pampered but frequently tracked F40 - with fewer than 23k miles - currently having its engine rebuilt. Just something to consider.

Would that be the one at Ferrari of Washington? I saw the bare block and crank during the national meet. It is amazing something that small makes so much power.

of course, there is that 8-10% buyers premium that needs to be inserted into the equations, so a winning bid at 300,000 is actually a 330,000 price tag

I talked to those guys. They have a nice collection of cars besides the F40. They said the F40 had a full belt service at 20,000 miles in 2001 and has been sitting in a "climate controlled" environment for the past two years. It's apparently running good. the Buyer's Premium for the auctioneer is 8 percent if you pay by cash or equivalent. Inspections are permitted today from 12 noon to 8 and tomorrow from 8 am to 4 pm.

the only thing that bothers me about the car, if it is mechanically sound as the garage that last worked on it claims, is the non stock wheels. Wonder where you can buy the original wheels?

I am interested in this car....if the price is right

Well. the price was right and I am the proud and ecstatic new owner. Can't wait for it to be delivered to its new "permanent" home. I am sure it is going to be double the thrill I have ever had driving a Ferrari. YEEEEEHAAAA

I got it EXACT! $295k was the final bid, right in the middle of my range! :D Of course you still have to tack on the 13% buyers premium.

    360 went for $105k
    550 went for $105k
    512M went for $140k

How long do I have to wait? Too long, but I hope to have it on an enclosed transport by the end of next week...I have had cars shipped to me from Tampa before, it isnt a long wait. I will take pictures and post them as soon as I get my hands on the car. I have wanted one since I saw the very first one featured in the FCA annual meet in Atlanta, Ga., back in 89 or 90...I remember it quite well, sitting in the middle of the concours field with a string quartet playing Bach, etc...I told my wife I will get one, only took me 16/17 years....

I have owned several Ferraris, but I don't remember ever being so excited waiting for one to be delivered. :)

I'm glad that you were the successful purchaser of the F40 at the auction last Saturday. Thanks to all who participated or who offered me tips. The funds raised by the sale of the Ferraris (and the other items that I sold) will be used to re-pay, in part, the victims of a credit card scam. I would be happy to explain the entire reason for the auction; if this post is still up in two days, then I'll know that I will be allowed to do so.

Oh, and by the way, the administrators have banned me (Mark J Bernet, Receiver), my son (ktenreb), and somebody named "Ferrarigirl," who is not me (I thought I knew who it was, but "her" last post occurred at a time when "she" had a complete alibi).

Congrats on winning the bidding for the F40. That is my ultimate dream car. Right now my goal is just to ride in one, then somewhere down the line, if fate and hard work smile on me, to own one. Enjoy the gift of owning a true pure sports car. If you find yourself wandering out into the garage in the middle of the night just to look at it, or sit in it, that is perfectly normal. Well....at least that is what I would do. ;)

Time to let the fleet know there's a new Sheriff in town - or let the Red Witch speak for herself when she shows? Congrats.
