    Hi guys,
Sorry if this seems like a stupid first post to you. My favorite car of all time has always been the f40. The completely raw hardcore nature, but still beautiful styling lends it something lacking in most of the newer supercars I see today. I've seen f40's in decent condition sell for about $250k through private sellers. I'm only 22 now, and I've often wondered whether I'd be able to afford an f40 at some point in my life. So I'm curious as to how little you think an f40 will be able to be had for in about 20 years. I'm also afraid that the limited numbers of the car may cause the price in 20 years to be higher than it is today.

    Rich air and clear skies,
    Austin

    Dear Comrade Austin,

The price just will not matter at all. It's a simple fact that if you throw your heart over the wall your body will follow. For if you really want anything in life you just have to really focus on it and somehow this very act will make it happen - this is what I believe and it has worked for me. So forget about what it may or may not cost and just decide that you will acquire one. Just do that - nothing else.

    With kind regards,

    512 Tea Are

F40's price today are already higher than $250k. More like $400k for the bottom priced. But who knows what they will be worth in 20 years or if you will be able to enjoy them at that point with so many stupid laws against cars being ruled. So the objective as Graham has said is to aquire one as fast as possible. Not easy but worth the shot ! If you fell short, you can still buy a Stradale ! :)

All Ferrari will be going up in price in 6-8 months time, some 328s are starting to reach 55000 euros which is quite high as most sell for 38000 euros now days.

By the way believe in what you want and thats the first goal to success. If you really want something you will get their ,sometimes you don't get it when expected ,some times I have sudden accomplishments when I think times are tough or do not even expect things to go right.
just don't be anxious as anxiety slows down the objective.Be patient but ambicious in getting their ,not in a rush and always honestly!

best regards, and I also would love to own an F40 one day soon.

Thanks for the warm inspiration guys! I plan to have a family someday too though, and being able to have money saved, afford sending my kids to any college they want to go to (a privilege I had from my parents), in addition to being able to afford an f40 will be no small feat. Mosler's first prototype car cost about 500k, as it was designed totally in CAD. Given that figure sometimes I wonder whether the price of a supercar would be better spent as the initial investment in one's own sports car company, which is an idea I've toyed with more than actually owning an f40. Having spent time on a formula SAE team though I have a taste of how ridiculous the work would be to develop a dot-legal sports car.

As Amenasce said though, I'd also be perfectly happy with a Stradale, or even a 512tr.

    Dear Comrade Camshaft,

Indeed yes, a 512 TR is a wonderful machine - so the ideal pair for you, as it is for me, is a 512TR and an F-40. All such things can be achieved with honesty and it is imperative that they should be. So don't concern yourself in how you will acquire such things. Just believe that what the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve. Anything really is possible. Really, really it is. You already appear to have the correct priorities so there is no reason whatsoever, that given time, that whatever goals you set will be fully realised. However, be aware, that as Shakespeare said, that it is a far better thing to travel in expectation than to arrive. So, be certain always to enjoy the journey.

    Best wishes.

    With kind regards,

    512 Tea Are

I personally would be surprised if some of the best cars (US Version, Unmodified Street F40) didn't break the $1M barrier in 5 years...

A friend of mine showed me two recently advertised F40's in Germany, one for 269,000 and one for 300,000 euros. The latter was an 8000 km car.

The USA models have popped in prices recently with pristine examples in the 500,000 range. Considering the scarcity of the USA model, it would not surprize me if an auction of a pristine one might bring 1 million in the next two years. In the meantime, I will enjoy mine, regardless of how much it is worth.

Have to remember that things go up and things go down. When they first came out they had to be owned and the price jumped to 800-900 mark with a few at 1M. Then they settled back down and can be bought for 400-500. As an investment, who knows where they will be in 20 years. But don't forget to factor in parts and maintenance on a car that at that stage will be 40 years old.

    Dear Comrade eff-fortyists,

I note that there is a momentum of opinion that believes the F-40 will spiral in value within the next decade. I am interested to learn of what will be the driver for this inflation?

IMO simple Supply Vs. Demand. Fixed or decreasing supply (many cars being purchased now entering signif collections and will likely not see the market again for many years) facing increasing demand...

hahaha ! That may give me pause as well...question is, what would you flip it into ? By that point, a McLaren F1 is probably $6million !

    Dear Comrade eff-fortyists,

The concensus of opinon regarding price is leading me to believe that the F-40 will soon overshadow the F-50. Is this the general view that there is a progressive realisation that the F-40 is the true icon with the others, for example the F-50, merely produced as a money spinner sold on the back of the F-40's original success?

Most interesting observation. All those cars that I want have crept pass what I can afford by the time I grew up :( with the exception of owning an F348 & a Testarossa.

But those that I really desire Eg. 275, Miura, gull-wing, 288GTO, F40 are so expensive these days with the exception of Countach & Dino which are rising in value as well. Sadly, my country doesn't even have those nor can I register them even if I can buy them with the exception of buying it then registering it in neighbouring Malaysia. The other problem I have is to pay cash in full since there's virtually no finance available on these classics....

You guys please live the dream for I can only envy.
