I think we're still at least two years from the bottom and I also think we'll bounce along that bottom for many, many years.

The US January sales will be a mile post for US F 40's. Keep in mind the price will not go straight down. There will be false rallies as there were the last time collector cars lost 80% of their value.

As an aside is the car that started this thread still for sale?

The question then becomes whether we see a gradual move away from luxury goods in general, especially if the upper middle class looses their appetite for them? Great for the true end users that are passionate about them, which can't be a bad thing.

However, I never thought that an F40 would become a white elephant, strange days...

Yea, I know. I went a little long.

The guys who work for me often roll their eyes as I try to make a point.

No offense taken and none intended--spirited debate, remember?

Those prices include AUS tax and aren't directly comparable to other prices in this thread.

There's another very important issue that's coming up as prices collapse. Title. A short time ago two Los Angeles Lamborghini Dealers Closed suddenly. About 20 new Lambo's were moved from the dealership into a warehouse. A Broker sent me an email offering these new cars for sale at a VERY low price and said that they would and were going fast. Interestingly Roy Cates an FCHAT Sponsor, (the Broker who sent me the email wasn't an FCHAT Sponsor), publicly warned that there was a claim on the title of these cars from the floor plan/bank. There's a very interesting thread on Alan's site about what happened to the people who bought these cars. Today I would be extremely careful with whom I deal with. I would make sure that they have the financial capability to make you whole if it turns out that the cars they are offering to sell you have title issues.

    Jim,

    Isn't this a contradiction?
I'd think it more plausible that as prices drop, they level off at different plateaus before descending to the next level.
Can't see how they would jerk upwards to go down, or is there more to this that I'm not envisioning?

Seemingly a great price on a nice car (although going throught 3 alternators does concern some) and it has not sold?
Reaffirms the softness in the market

I'm not talking about huge moves but if you look at any chart while the direction over time is clear in the short term there are fluctuations.

Yes, my "expert" says about the same but I won't wait forever, everything below €200K is a excellent deal in my eyes, no matter what the market says. Another remarkable offer: 07 Bugatti Veyron, delivery miles, well below a million € incl. VAT.

Wow on the Veyron. Always keep in mind that time is very valuable, it passes quickly and that a day spent without enjoying yourself is one lost forever.

I know of an 07 Veyron with less than 1000 miles, sold for £650k (Sterling) in the trade.

So jim, you think f40s are gonna hit the 200k (US) mark in that time ?

Im hoping they are (of course for personal gain) I know some on here hate hearing it...but i hate hearing my TR is worth 40 grand....but the 100+ grand i have in it and fun with my kids is worth every penny i invested.

The enjoyment value is all that matters. Money comes and goes. I do think that they will but the two year window is interesting in that during that time an unimaginable amount of money will be printed world wide and at some point hyper inflation may come home to roost so while prices may fall for a while when they rise they may rise in massively devalued currency. Things may "cost" much more but be worth much less vs their price in today's currencies.
