Can I get some stats on actual sale prices of the F40 in today's market? Condition and miles will impact pricing, but asking prices are all over the board...

Joe (Sackey) would probably have the best grasp of actual prices these days. Perhaps he will chime in or you can send him a PM.

In my opinion (which doesn't account for much) - the range is probably $400k to $550k. $400k for a higher mileage car (10k+ miles) which may not be a pristine example. $550k (give or take) for a pristine low mileage example. Everything else in between some where. Just my guess ...

I agree with Jeffrey that Joe Sackey would probably have the best grasp of actual prices ...

I tend to think Jeffrey's prices are a bit low...
1 or 2 essentially 0-miles cars have sold over $700K
I would place very low mileage (under 2000 miles) cars around $600K
Cars in the 5000 mile range I would put at $500-550K
And high mileage cars (10,000) at $450-500K
I don't see any no stories original car going below $450K at this point...

    ... Just my guess ... :D

In this particular case I'm HAPPY to be wrong! :D
I haven't been watching prices lately and did not realize they had crept up even more. No complaints from me!

I do admit that I cringed last week when my mileage went over 4000 miles (bought it at 3200). As per this thread, I probably lost $40k in value?

Although it doesn’t make any difference because I don’t intend to ever sell, it still gives me pause.

However, it may mean that instead of me putting 3k+ miles on it a year, I may only put on half that. Well, that’s why I need other Ferraris to take out my aggression. So, for my wife, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

    Interesting.

My take is based on me being the most unsuccessful F40 buyer in America....

What I mean is that I have been in touch with many collectors and in most cases I have not been able to offer them enough money to get them to part with their F40. This has provided a basis for gauging values, plus in the rare cases where I have actually sold cars (less than a half-dozen last year) the numbers have been carefully considered by buyer & seller and the transaction only succeeded because both where satisfied = fair market.

    - I dont think any USA F40 can be prised away for much less than $400k no matter the mileage, providing it has been properly maintained. There is in fact a segment that would like a car that will not be mileage-sensitive and wants one with 5-digits (10,000 and over) and they have $400k to spend for a decent one.
    - The top end of the scale price-wise is the car that has been scrupulously dealer-maintained, remains in perfect original unmodified condition with original paint and interior flawless, original sticker, all records, original books, tools, luggage, and with low miles. These cars with perhaps under 1,000 miles command "silly money" because the individuals that are attracted to them are extremely affluent with no plans of using them regularly. They are seen as more of a "collectible item" and money is no object with a less-than-200 miles car changing hands for in excess of $750k.
    - The middle ground is perhaps suited best to most who post & read here, all of whom I would classify as enthusiasts. Perhaps the ultimate would be a car as described above, but with 2 to 8 thousand miles that has been sorted out and currently serviced. $500k plus, depending on the car & owner is about market. I can easily agree (despite our collective differing viewpoints) that most enthusiasts here who own cars clearly know what they are doing and have them well looked after, and accordingly I would direct a collector towards their cars if they came available, as opposed to someone I have never heard of whose car might have been sitting in a warehouse the past 8 years! The problem I have now is that I cannot find any F40s amongst my circle of collectors that are seriously-for-sale cars, for the collectors who are looking for one... I am getting desperate, but F40 values will not suffer as a result...
    - As always, get the local dealer to do a full PPI for all parties benefit. You simply cant go wrong that way and they are happy to be part of the process. I have used the network each time with prompt, courteous and equitable results.

With this in mind, I suspect you predict F40 prices to rise in 2008 then?

I cannot say that for sure, as that would simply be speculation on my part (Im not one for predictions...). But I do know for sure that I cannot find what I am looking for right now seemingly because most F40 owners want to keep them and enjoy them. However, there appears to be multiple parties looking for good cars... accordingly I cannot rationalize the value trend changing. Make sense?

    Gene,

The F40 is a very charismatic car and once you get the 'bug' for ownership I suspect youll find it to be an adventure that will be not inexpensive.
However, my humorous post seems to have been lost on you, so let me assure you that F40s are pretty reliable if maintained regularly. I can tell you this having owned multiple cars. Let me know if I can help in any way.

And Gene... Do it! You will never regret it. Buying my F40 is one of the best decisions I ever made.

    Hi Joe,

The F40 and expensive are synonymous. I think I been around the "expensive automobile" world long enough to know what I am getting into. However I do appreciate your concern and yes I can use your help or any other's before I pull the trigger on one. Thanks Gene.

It would appear - by your first post - that you have identified some examples for sale. Are the "asking prices" you are are finding in line with what Joe (and others) have indicated? I personally don't know of a single F40 for sale at the moment (with the exception of Roland's). If there is one out there that you have identified - and for whatever reason have passed on - please let me know as I have a friend also interested in finding a F40. He has not reached desperation levels but as Joe indicated - "once the bug bites ..." it does become and obsession to secure one! :)
