If you are serious and need a real F40 body, as in original F40 front and rear clams, side pods and roof, I have an extra set.

A good source for Ferrari parts is Exotic auto recycling in Southern California. You can find their web page very easily. They are nice people with reasonable prices which are negotiable.

Interesting thread especially since the thought has crossed my mind.

Personally I would start with with a Ferrari chassis so that once complete it will be registered as such, rather than a kit car.

How is the project coming along?

Or even better a late model Mondial with the proper engine/trans arrangement.

Just wondering about the inaccuracies in the drawings easily found via google. With them being scans from an actual f40 manual I would have thought they'd be pretty much spot on?

anyway, your project won't be cheap and the monetary value will not equal the real thing but it most certainly will provide you with great satisfaction if you manage to take it all the way :)

Hey bro, it's my dream too.

Let me know and maybe we can make one for me in RHD. If we can get a few people, we might be able to bring down the cost significantly .

But the parts are hard to come by.

Wasn't here for couple years. Still dreaming about F40.

What was happened due to this time.

    1. I have my work shop build.
    2. Built the Audi Sport Quattro body replica. Was offered to sell it, couldn't refuse.
    3. Converting the 4 door quattro in to 2 door quattro. There are only 121 pc. 2 door saloon quattro's on this planet.

    Some pictures:

If the F40 was rebuilt with today's technology it would be with carbon monocoque, the engine and gearbox as a stressed member, 18-19 inch wheels to accommodate huge carbon ceramic disk brakes, manettino with Traction Control, full LED nights...

The manual gearbox and the pop up lights would have to be retains to conserve the personality of the car !!!

    Hello!

This is 4th year since I was started this discussion. Some people try to contact me due to this time with some questions.

Well there are no weeks when at least once the F40 idea not coming to my mind. When something appears on the web about this issue. I do try note those things or ideas. So, the process of brainstorming never stops. :)

Here are some of my discoveries. How this project could be done.

    1. The donor chassis - Ferrari 328 parted out chassis.
    2. Drivetrain - Italia 458 after accident, slavage donor with working engine.
    3. Special tubing - ProFormance Metals - Stockholder of Specialist Metals
    4. Body kit - There are some candidates but these suppliers should be investigated.

My advice would be to ditch using a 308/328 as a base car.

You would have to lengthen the wheelbase and widen the track, and in doing so you lose the engineering dynamics of that car, unless you have superb facilities to do such.

348 is the best option on a budget as neither of the above have to then be compromised and you just concentrate on the looks.

Plenty of bare 348/355 chassis for sale in Germany, buy one of those and whip off the exterior panels and away you go, buying up parts as required and budget allows.

348/355 has completely different chassis design. I gues there was discussion before about that. 308/328 based on unique bicycle style space frame, very similar to F40. .

in a lot of ways like the Enzo, safer to drive and less a lot of the F40's scaryness, probably. I'm not sure it'd be better on the senses. I like the "pocket rocket" feel and edgyness of such cars of yesteryear. There, like life, is an incorporated risk factor that adds to the experience - if you look at it that way.

Found Your project. Looks good, sad to see it stall.

I spoke to today with my colleague about my project. It seems like we will go full electric. It will save lot of money and will be way much easier to maintain. With lot of future potential to develop. My friend is automation guru, this was his suggestion. He know how to do that. We will use the Toyota Prius components. Stick with light 308/328 chassis. We need less weight.

So, we are reducing our cost and could spend more on chassis and body kit as it self.

Any condition 308/328 chassis offer appreciated. If You know some reasonable solution I would be interested.

I didn't skip the idea about F40 project. Some things has changed, the body kits are now available, more info, cars for spearparts etc. I do think, within 2-3 years there could be some start.
