I do hope that it is his car, i will be the first to apologise to him if he is correct, but going through past stories of new guys with Enzos F40 and the like who do not fill out profiles, you should understand why i and others doubted him, you say respect his privacy fair enough but if i wanted my privacy respected i would not have come to a public forum.
Ok... A friend of mine PMed me and said that the VIN to Wrath's car was 74047, which is supposedly the F40 prototype at LoD... Either he doesn't own the car or he doesn't own the one that's at LoD or whatever... Below, please find information in the database here at The Ferrari Market Letter concerning 74047, which will hopefully clear things up for at least ONE of these prototypes... Re: 74047: "This was indeed prototype No. 4 for the F40 series. Seen in 1987 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. like other prototypes, it had transparent rear engine cover. Slots have a different design and are smaller than the production model. One of supposedly only seven cars buil;t 1993-1994 by Michelotto in Padua, Italyt for the Italian GT Supercar series and described as F40 CSAI-GT cars. Then to Luca Sartori, Italy. Raced in the 1992 Italian Grand Criterium Supercar GT series by Luca Sartori. Race no. 3. Red. Raced in the 1993 Campionato Italiano Supercar GT series by Sartori. Race no. 3. Shown also at the big Imola meet October 4th, 1987. Light blue and white. In 2000, the car with Rosso Corsa in Italy." Now, if Wrath is claiming to own 74047, then when it was raced, it must've DNF'ed the very first lap in all the races it participated in; otherwise, this is not the car... From what i understand, it was also converted to F40 LM specs...
Thanks for the VIN NNO, curious about the km`s.....or is it another one? Ok im still confused here, Carbon that was good info but i still dont know if Wrathracer is the actual owner, anything else you can find out about this car/owner please, i really do hope that Wrathracer owns this car.
Carb you are a little off base here (just a bit) the prototype in question is in fact the one we are talking about IT IS at Lambo Dallas and if wrathracer is the owner I don't know but I do know who the owner is. If wrathracer is his online persona then you make the jump here... The car in question was a prototype that was ENZO's copy as a personal car of the series It was not raced but was his car. As it comes back together there are many subtle differences to the production car. Now there is one interesting fact that people don't know, This is the Second Time that car has resided in Dallas as it was first purchased by another local Ferrari collector of considerable esteem and obvious taste and access, then sold to someone outside the area and then re acquired by a local and brought back to Dallas. That is about all I can say at the moment. But if i am allowed to say more in the future I will.
Also, Jim, 74047 was made in mid to late '87; approximately a year before Enzo passed away... What was he, practically on his death bed, doing with this balls to the wall racecar...?
Do you really have to ask that Also I think it is up to the owner to post the Vin or S number it is his car
Yes, i have to ask; to question the logic... Also, the owner never posted his/her VIN; i posted the VIN of the car i was told was at LoD; i have no idea if that's the owner's car or not and am inclined to believe that it's NOT since there's a noticeable discrepancy with the miles...
If this is the car I think it is, then it shoudn't have a chassis number. Correct me if I'm wrong James, but wasn't this the car I was offered in 2000 or so?
The title here says prototype, single not plural. How many Ferrari F40 models are considered "prototype" here? IS a F40 with no number a pre prototype or a post prototype build? The first F40 Le Mans as it was called at the time of it's introduction on July 21, 1987 was serial number 73015. It was stated at that time that only two examples had been completed and both were present for the press to view and photograph but not drive. 74047 is some units away from that number... Delivery of production examples was targeted March 1988. There was not much notice taken of projected sales at that time. It was felt that perhaps 400-450 units could be sold. There seemed to be little incentive to hide cars by not issuing a serial number that would contribute to the total number of models built. Production Numbers would become a much bigger issue when the F50 arrived... CH
It must be a different car. I do not believe the owner of the one you are talking about with no vin would post on here. He is quite private and would do nothing to draw attention to himself. It is kind of confusing with this car showing back up in Dallas.
I know who the owner is now and the car is definitely not the non-vin car of which I was speaking. However, knowing the owner, all I can say is, if he says it is a certain way, it is a certain way. He is a real, stand-up person with quite a lot of past Ferrari experience. I am anxious for him to get the car completed now that I know who it belongs to. Sorry, I cannot disclose any more info unless he were to give me his okay. I will respect that rite for any other Ferrari owner also.
NNO, I have not seen the car, I just know who the owner is and have known him for about 5 years...... Sorry......
There were at least 11 "prototypes". I know of: 77289: Plate is "E274 BGT" The number of it (1-XX, at least 11) is normally displayed in the corner of the rear side window
Carb, I met with the owner on Friday. It is his purview if he wants to disclose anything else on this car, Back off a bit and he might. All in good time, there is as you would expect a great deal of interest in this vehicle at this time. The owner has been inundated with inquiries regarding the F40. As I said I have met him and I know both the car and person is legit. More details will be made public in due course. Patience Grasshopper...
Hey, man, i'm not here to piss anyone off; i'm only asking so we can put the information in our database... Just trying to obtain and verify accurate stuff, you know..? It's not like i'll be posting said info on www.carbonmccoy.com; hell, i'll take a PM or an email with information, i don't care...
in due course... while the clock ticks, how about a comment regarding the other prototype-the first USA spec F40. When did that F40 arrive. Would September 1990 be a good guess? How many more followed and for how long, 1992? Thank you. Regards, CH
And did he ever show you the proof? Is true that LoD vin number pretty much destroyed this guy's claim? "Hello everyone. I just been given complete ownership of the Fiat company as a gift. I figured I would let Ferrari still operate because I think that famous red color of their cars looks kind of neat. I I I Opps I pushed enter a few times despite its function to end paragraphs and not submit the text for posting... I will post pictures of me in the front office at Maranello in a few weeks time and show you the ownership papers via the Ferrari website once I return from my vacation in fantasy land." Great research on the 288 Evo and listing the fates of these and the first set of F40s. In the magazine "EVO" there was a decent article about it as well as a great test among a GTO, F40 and 50, and Enzo. Im guessing it was the issue from two months ago. I do not recall reading that two were scrapped but do not doubt it. It makes me wonder if Enzo did have some say in their fate. As many know and as posted in the magazine Forza, Enzo would scrap many vehicles on lot that were past two years operational use. A sad end of the icon looking Sharknose F1s met this out with the old in with the new attitude. RocketBoy
