    Hi,

First time I have posted on ferrarichat.com. I'm looking to purchase a F40 in the first half of 2010 and import it back to New Zealand. I would prefer a pre 1990 model so that the car is 20 years old and therefore excluded from most of our NZ compliance rules.

I was originally thinking of purchasing from the UK, but after reading posts on here it seems as though the best deals may be in other parts of Europe.

What advice can anyone give about purchasing an early F40, and where do the prices look to be sitting at present?

I understand there are 2 F40's in NZ at present and at least one 288GTO. Apparently another F40 is due to arrive ex UK in the next month or so.

I'm not after a perfect example as I will drive it once a week and do the odd track day as well.

    Thanks for any help.

Matthew, I can relate to your '20 year' rule for imports. Here in Canada we have a '15 year' rule that removes all restrictions once that period of time has passed. However it is the actual month of manufacture that is the key importing under the '15 year' rule and not just the year of manufacture here. When the F40 was new the car did not meet the Canadian bumper standards and was inadmissable for street use.
Can't give you a specific number but there are very few of the 1989 built F40 models that turn up for sale. Good luck in your search!

You'll probably find Euro-spec cars come and go to and from the Uk according to the exchange rate to the Euro - currently the flow is probably from the UK

You may want to consider commissioning a local purchasing agent for such a high-ticket long-distance purchase

Since you want an early car, try to find one with the sliding windows.

Beautiful car though, I think he'd take abit less than he's asking for tbh.
