I have a couple of questions that I thought someone could answer for me. 1. What was the first year the F40 was imported as a USA model? 2. As I understand it, the stock F40 has an engine designated at TIPO 120A. Do the letters TIPO stand for something? Thanks much! Ron
I assume this is a 1990 model year, possibly delivered in 1989? i.e., not a model year 1989 Thx - Tim
Marcel is correct that the car was built in 1989, but for purposes of the USA DOT, it is strictly a 1990 model year car. Therefore to answer the OP's question correctly, the first model year for the USA is 1990. USA cars have model years 1990, 1991 and 1992 ascribed to them.
"1. What was the first year the F40 was imported as a USA model?" The first year the F40 was imported as a USA Model was 1989 as Marcel correctly pointed out. As Mike pointed out the "model year" was 90 but it was imported in 1989.
Sorry, it was ME who was wrong. I double checked my database again. I saw 84729, the first US version F40 built, at the factory in Maranello, undergoing construction on March 24, 1990, (NOT 1989). Of course, 84729 is Model Year 1990, not 1989. My apologies for the incorrect information. The second US F40 built was 84838 and it was built May 1990. It went new to Steven Kessler Motorcars in NY who then sold it to first owner E. B. in Naples/FL. Marcel Massini
