I was wondering if anyone would be able to confirm the following:

    - the diameter of the stock steering wheel
    - the diameter of the stock gear shift knob

I'm planning ahead for an F40 and trying to get some of the parts squared away ahead of time. From searching previous posts, I believe someone mentioned that the MOMO Model 78 wheel would be a direct fit...I'm just not sure if 330mm or 350mm would match the stock size (or be closest). Similarly, I see titanium shift knobs listed in 43mm and 46mm sizes and wasn't sure which would be the closest match.

I'm also contemplating replacing the stock seats/belts with aftermarket seats and harnesses. If anyone could offer any guidance as to what would be involved there, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The stock F40 steering wheel is 330mm in diameter. 350mm is too big. The MOMO Model 78 is a perfet fit and looks better than stock. Below is the proof. Finally it would be better to go with a carbon fiber gearknob instead of a much heavier titanium one. There is no titanium used in the body of the F40 but there is plenty of carbon fiber as standard. Also the stock pedals are made from aluminium, so what's the point in having a titanium gearknob and aluminium pedals? Keep it in the same ballpark for the best look and keep it all lightweight.

Dunno but I prefer the original seats as they show the carbon fiber at the sides.

Looks like 2nd photo is the std US seat. The carbon is there, just not showing well in that photo. 3rd photo look to be euro seats with harness.

Thanks for the input Dan. By any chance do you happen to know what diameter carbon fiber gear shift knob would be a direct replacement for stock?

If anybody has any info on replacing seats/belts, I'd love to hear that as well :) .

I'm not sure of the exact diameter, but I know that all the carbon fiber shift knobs available on the market only come in one size and it's the same diameter as the original knob.

    Dan -

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the F40 OEM knobs are tiny little buggers -- 43mm, by my measurement this morning.

The CF knobs that I've had at Ricambi (from a variety of suppliers) were all 47mm, including the one I run in my 348 now. Personally, 47mm is much more reasonable and provides a better grip (for me) than the anemic little stock ones.

Thanks again for the help everyone. That resolves the gear shift/steering wheel mystery. Now I just need to solve the seat/belt riddle :-/ .

    No issue/riddle.

Swapping belts and seats is easy. Just the cost of the seats and belt. Attach points are already there for the harness. Euro seats and aftermarket seats attach to the same rails.

Easy job. Only issue is the cost of the seats and belts.

Are there any specific aftermarket seats that work "better?" I've seen a few posts where people mentioned that aftermarket seats sat too high, or had the wrong angle. I was looking at these http://www.subesports.com/products/cat/Seating/brand/Cobra/prodID/657, but wasn't sure if a replacement had to be bottom mount.

I much prefer the Euro seats over the US spec...so that's another option. Does anyone know of a source for those?

The standard Sabelt seatbelts that come with the car look best. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

What years did the US mandate the electric seatbelts? Was it just for cars or trucks, too? Our '92 Explorer didn't have it, but when we had a '94 Sentra, they had them.

Btw, I looked at the pics I took of Simon's seats and they're the same as pic 2 that WilliamH was interested in. :)

I believe 1990 was the first year they required those train track seatbelts.

The US never mandated the electric belts, they only mandated passive restraints and the belts satisfied that requirement. Air bags were still too expensive and too experimental for many auto manufacturers.

Ferrari started using the belts in some models in late MY88 and quit in early MY95

I'm sorry, but I do have an original F40 steering wheel in my TR,together with a spacer...it happens the diameter is approx 340 or 345mm....
Maybe there were different steering wheel diameter according to the driver's corpulence?
    BTW Dan,remember me?

Hi Stefaan. I've measured the stock steering wheel on an F40 and it definitely measured 330mm diameter. Possibly there were other steering wheels for the F40 also.
