Hi guys, I would like to know from people with driving experiance on a F40, how much boost the turbo gets. On my car it gets up to 1.4 bars which is very close to the max of gauge indicator of 1.5 bars. I do not get a led light showing it overboosts but I wonder if 1.4 is normal. I hear from some mechanics that the range is 1.2 to 1.4 , but I would appreciate if any of you can confirm that, from personal experiance. thank you very much GM
For a US car stock is 1.1 bar and the fuel cut-off is set about 1.45 bar. Note that there is a boost controller built into the system. Follow the small (4mm ??) hose from the plenum to the wastegate. In between it goes through a plastic duty-cycle solenoid valve with three ports. One port looks like someone knocked off a hose, but it's there to bleed signal pressure to atmosphere. It's controlled by the ecu. The function is to allow max boost at midrange rpm, increasing torque in the meat of the power band. Then at higher rpm it reduces the bleed to the wastegate, effectively reducing manifold pressure. So, what this means is the wastegate is not set to 1.1 - 1.4 bar, it's set much lower (can't find my note at the moment, but it's something like 0.5 bar). The system is explained a bit poorly in the workshop manual, and many owners unplug the electrical connector or bypass it with the tubing. If one encounters overboost issues, this solenoid valve is tunable (email me for explanation) as one additional method of solving the problem and retaining power and drivability. Best regards, Rob
But don't kill the pistons with running more boost without readjusting the fuel and ignition. __________ Samy
