I know they are, but the gap would have been a little smaller maybe.

    Not even close.

A decent f1 car hits 0-100 in 3 seconds flat and 0-150 in 6.5 and 0-200 in 15 seconds flat.

The F40 needs a whopping 15 seconds to get to 150 mph at which point the F1 car is doing in excess of 200 mph.

The most telling time is the gap between the two cars at 0-150. It takes the F40 more than twice as long to hit 150 as the F1 car.

I'm actually surprised the F1 car didn't blow away the F40 even faster than that. Perhaps that's because they used a Jordan...

I thought that the Jag F1 car most recently did 0-100 in 4.3? that is a big difference over 3 sec flat..but I could be wrong...still would make an F40 seem like its standing still.

almost twice the power, almost half the weight, and that's before they ever take a turn... oh, did I mention braking? :D

That said, it is an equally lopsided victory in the F40's favor in the all important run-to-the-store-for-a-quart-of-milk race, where the F1 car needs 5 technicians, 3 laptops and an outboard starter to even turn over.

Point is it's a silly comparison. Next up, me on a bicycle vs the space shuttle.

That seems much more believable than 0-100mph in 3 seconds.

It's actually 3.8 according to these guys which is a bit slower than my posted time from memory but they have a faster 0-150 time of 5.7 secs: http://www.datrontechnology.co.uk/site/article.php?sid=62

    Cheers,

    Jon

I remember reading a test on mugello, Italy (I think?) between a then new 348 tb, a F40 and a year old Ferrari F1.
In a very understated way the writer comments on the topspeed of the F40 and the F1, "they are very similar in top speed only the F1 gets there rather more quickly...".
