If buying an F40, is there any difference in the value between the different years?

Generally the '92 cars can be a bit stronger.

Here we go again. Do a search and you will see the firestorm of this topic.

You are asking two different questions: 1) are there differences and 2) are they priced differently.

I'll start with this. From personal experience of what I have seen, build quality differs a lot from car to car. I have seen '90s and '91s that are way better than a lot of '92s. I have also seen some stellar '92s. Many people seem to think that the cars were just built better and better as time went on but I have seen two '92s where it looked like they just phoned it in. The panels were way off, the glue was weird, the welds were even worse than usual. You will find guys who will say the complete opposite.

What this means is that you have to look at each car individually and go by each car's pluses and minuses.

As far as differences, there were three different types of carbon kevlar weave made through out the run (at least on US cars) that I have seen. None of these are better than the others, just different. Beyond that, later cars have mechanical updates like a better placed clutch bleeder and some other stuff (compare differences in the oil caps, for instance).

As far as value, people sometimes do ask more for '92s because it's a '92 but the actual price an educated buyer pays is based on the condition of the car. F40 quality can vary so wildly and so many have serious deferred maintenance issues that you need to buy the best car you can, regardless of year or mileage. Low miles isn't always better with these.

    Hope that helps.
