Hello i just finidshed my drawing of an F40 LM. I know it looks really bad over the computer but im only 14 and it looks 10 times better in person the lines are a lot more smooth. I did'nt spend to much time on it only a few hrs.

My advice would be to print out a picture of the angle you want and then just keep tracing it until you get a feel for the line of the roof and for the rest of the car as a matter of fact. I am impressed though, very good job.

yea thats one of the things i dont really focus on. im gonna fix the wheels and outline it in pen. It looks very rough in the picture but its not nearly that bad in person. I will continue to add little things here and there and smooth out the lines a lot over my break from school.

Well done, dude. A very well done drawing. I can tell you have an eye for catching detail. You noticed the centre hubs are not round but octagonal... the 3 exhaust pipes, the larger front lip, the door seam the cuts in through the main NACA duct. Your ability to "see" those things is evident.

Very well done... alot better than i was at 14. The Ferraris i drew at 14 looked more like the Batmobile. :)

    If i may offer advice:
    1. when using pencil, especially a soft pencil, have a clean sheet of paper to rest your hand on. Pencil lead smudges alot and doesnt take much pressure/movement to make it happen. Since noone can work from left to right 100% finishing the car as you go, the paper acts as a shield for what you have done that far.
    2. For the main structure of the car, keep your line weight - the pressure of the pencil on paper - very light at first - almost invisible. Build it up over time, correcting as you go. Leaving the more inaccurate lines light they will "fade" and the ones you want growing darker and more prominent.
3.Another trick that some designers use, is like Cary's responce said: tracing paper. If you have 2 or three attempts of a particular view of a car (the same size - if they arent scan or photocopy them until they are) and the wheels turned out better in #1 and the rear wing and door you like in #2 and the roof and rear window from #3 is the best, take the tracing paper and trace those favourite sections from each one, leaving you a final with the best of all 3.

    Just some suggestions.

again, kudos to you for a fine drawing!

cool, man. i always appreciate kids who like to sketch! do you want to go into transportation design? or is this just a hobby?

practice sketching elipses on an elipse chart and you will automatically start getting better at drawing your wheels...

btw: check out www.cardesignnews.com ...it's a great site/forum that has car design news and even has a section offering sketching advice...:)

For wheels themselves, given their circular nature, you can use elliptical drawing tools for the vast majority of them. It's made some of my stuff look immeasurably better.
