Here is a video of a F430 and a Porsche GT on a highway in Dubai. Ofcourse the GT is in a different category. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipfh0-1xacQ
A different category indeed. This take the Corvette vs Ferrai debate to another level. What is there to say a car with outstanding build quality, panache, and goes faster? I guess the reverse argument now applies; the vette costs less the porsche costs more.
As one with both in the family, I will say that the CGT is in a class of its own and incredible at the limits on the track - very rewarding to drive hard and at the limits; however, the CGT does not have as much usable street power -- that is, driving it on the street is like driving on marbles - the F430 is wholly different and inspires much more confidence on the street. Of course, I have an F430 Spider and have yet to track it, but I am not expecting an on-track experience anywhere close to the CGT.
That is all true. The Porsche GT has absolutely no electronic safety. The driver needs to rely 100% on his or her driving skills and it's only supplied in a manual version. You need to be a very well skilled driver to track a Porsche GT safely and properly. There have been many road accidents worldwide with Porsche GT's due to lack of driving experience and skills.
Very, very true. I must say that I have had two close calls on the road with folks in SUVs who were inattentive - and caused me to take evasive action - No damage, thankfully, but a 180 in the process.
the carrera gt has traction control. unless you know stats vs. other cars like the enzo for example i wouldnt be posting "There have been many road accidents worldwide with Porsche GT's due to lack of driving experience and skills." that could be said of almost any high performance car. jeff
"The driver needs to rely 100% on his or her driving skills " is a very true statement I would say that applies to most high performance cars but is of utmost importance regarding the CGT. I have done some very imprudent thngs in the F430 that would have gotten me killed in my CGT - The CGT "bites" hard; the F430 less so.
i didnt take issue with any of the above. he stated and you agreed the cgt had no electronic safety. yet it does have traction control. the f430 wouldnt be a comparable perfomance car. i think if statistics were compiled, the enzo's record would show just as many or more "road accidents worldwide . . . . due to lack of driving experience and skills" even though there were far less produced. i think all three cars are fantastic, but take issue when the cgt gets singled out as a particularly dangerous vehicle. jeff
I don't think anybody meant to single out the CGT as a particularly dangerous vehicle. It is not. Ofcourse it has traction control. The CGT like the Enzo and a few other vehicles fall into a different category of supercars and they definitely require higher driving skills than many other performance cars to safely and efficiently manage them on the road. Many people have acquired them because price was not an issue, but they lacked the experience and know-how of controling these vehicles which lead to very unfortunate incidents.
Icon - my ADD got the best of me - I was speaking to the road manners and the need for 100% concentration - In all seriousness, my CGT is really at another level vis a vis knife edge handling - As for PSM (which the CGT has to some degree), it is more akin to a GT2 (none) than to a Twin Turbo (which has PSM plus awd) IMHO, having had both of those as well. Sudden moves in the CGT (all too common when driving with others around you on the street) do not result in the same response as in my F430 (tho I don't drive my F430 on CST on the street). At some point I am sure I will track the F430 Spider just to compare but have not had the burning desire yet.
