Has anyone installed Cat bypass pipes on their F430........any ideas, experience?
I'm thinking of implementing this modification on my F430.

    Thanks, Tarek

For a street driven car in the US, it's an unlikely mod, and even more unlikely that someone would admit it on a public forum given the consequences.

I understand. Let us assume that cars, F430s or others with such modifications are strictly for track use.

Come on gentlemen......I can't believe that no one has experience in fitting Cat bypass pipes to any performance car.

What are the pros and cons?

While it's not a Ferrari, I have test pipes on my 350Z and I love 'em. They free up a lot of power and they give a little more noise, but not too much. They're also cheaper than high-flow cats. The only problem is the smell you get when you idle for too long, but luckily it's all behind your car :D.

I found F430 Cat bypass pipes at Fabspeed. How will the O2 sensors and ECU respond to the new readings without the CAT.....they will be out of range or is there a CAT simulator which can be installed?

If you want my opinion (and I have a vested interest of course), F430 test pipes are really just a problem-in-the-waiting.

Yes, you could install an O2 simulator.
Yes, the 1st O2 sensor is in the manifold
    Yes, the car will run.

Will it produce substantially more power than a HyperFlow cat? I would guess it's within 2-5% of a HyperFlow cat.

Will it make the fuel smell quite strong? Yes (when sitting at idle or in the garage). No (when driving).

Will it make dealer service more problematic? Yes... now they'll have one more excuse when something (anything!) happens that they can't explain. Regardless of whether the test pipe is involved. Heck, they'll blame the test pipe for a blown fuse in your windshield wipers!

Will it make resale more of a hassle? Yes (in the U.S.). At a minimum, it's simply one more thing you need to remove/reinstall at the time of sale. At worst, it's something you need to explain to the future buyer.

I know the HyperFlow's are expensive. But with free shipping to Egypt and a weak US dollar, it's not quite as bad as earlier in the year. :)

Maybe. If the car is in perfect tune, and arrives at the shop nice and hot.

In many states, a failed emissions test gets logged to the VIN and starts to appear in all sorts of places you don't want it. Again, one more PITA when it comes time to sell the car (at least here in the US)

Thanks Daniel..........I like your explanation :).

Do you have actual F430 dyno test results with the HyperFlow Cats compared to OEM Cats, both with the OEM exhaust?
