Your advice/opinion fellas please.....I'm looking at changing the headers on my '07 F430 from oem shortly. I'll be doing to work myself but wanted to see if the obd wifi jobbie in the link below would be ok to use to clear any cel that might appear afterwards?

I'd intend to remap later if it was required, but if this item worked, would it cause any longer term issues at all (& would the cel just keep coming back on?).

    Thanks!

Most (if not all) OBDII code readers are capable of clearing codes. But, codes arise for a reason, clearing them does not resolve the root cause and without that, they will come back

Clearing a code is only the first step in troubleshooting and should not have any negative effect on the ECU. The code will come back if there is an issue. However, I have seen in some cases where the cheaper generic readers will blow fuses which leads me to believe that their quality standards may not be up to par to work on a $100k+ car. Just had to work on a Jaguar XKR after one of those dumbass insurance thingies screwed up his OBD system.

You have a Ferrari, buy a real reader from a company that has been proven to use modern quality standards in their manufacturing process.

I've been using the same dongle for years. It's fine and yes, you'll most likely get a CEL with headers. O2 extenders didn't work for me, so I just clear mine whenever it decides to pop up.

Thanks for all the advice guys....always welcomed. I didn't know if the cel would show just because it was a change going on, but actually all is ok. As I said, it's likely I'll invest in a proper remap, but wanted to ask opinions & advice for between the time of fitting & then.

I assume I'm correct in thinking a remap is the way to go to sort the issue properly?

I'm not sure if they can tune that out or if they simply turn that light off permanently.

In ref to getting a cel on changing the manifolds- i fitted the Capristo version on mine, i get the occasional code but just turning off the battery will clear it.
As you will be fitting a manifold with no pre cat, it has a tendency to throw a code if you do not give it enough time to warm up the exhaust system, i found that if you let it tick over without touching the throttle i have no problems with codes- my opinion is that it allows the sensors to heat up enough so that any unburnt fuel lands on a hot sensor and burns off, reving it while not hot deposits fuel on a cool sensor and triggers the cel. I have had 1 cel last year re exhaust.

You can fit miniature catalytic converters like these (http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/) to the downstream lambdas to eliminate any cat efficiency codes. If you're struggling to find a UK supplier give me a shout.

I'm running Fabspeed Headers with 90 degree O2 spacers with mini catalytic converters (also from Fabspeed). So far so good, after 2 months no CEL.

I swapped to AP headers then just under a hundred miles started getting P2197 codes. Clearing them resulted in no CEL for 2 weeks before it came back again. I started getting P2198 codes and at that point guessed that the front left o2 sensor had gone bad since it was reporting both lean and rich fuel mixes. After replacing the sensor I never got the code again.

I used a cheap 6 quid Autel OBD scanner

These simple OBDII tools work fine.

The oem scanners are far to expensive to buy.
