Hey everybody, strange thing happened yesterday with my top. After driving under the sun for a few hours, parked it, off the engine, tried to close the top but encountered a intermittent problem. The cover would slide open but the black convertible top would not move. Tried a few times but still not close. I can hear the hydraulics working and no unusal sounds. I turned the engine back on and tried again, then it worked. Never had this problem before. Any ideas? It's a 2005 F430. Thanks!

I would recommend operating the top with the engine running.

Michael, did you ever have this reoccur? I am searching for the fix as I have the same issue....only mine didn't fix itself as yours did. And I do only open and close the top with the engine running. However, my top has failed with the same symptoms as yours. Dealer repaired it, but that only lasted three weeks.

Hey GaryC430, it turns out that after driving top on or topless on the highways or hard driving or extreme hot temperatures, the hydraulics were too hot to operate the convertible. I would let the car sit for about 5-8min and then operate the top. Never had any problems since.

Interesting. I have had this problem on rare occasions where the deck lifts, but the top itself does not move. In my case, if I close the deck lid (fully open the top) and restart the cycle, it works every time. I never noted whether it may be a heat related issue, but then again, when I recycled the movement, it worked right away.

I had the opposite issue. My rams worked when exposed to the heat of the engine.

I am crossing my fingers that mine is fixed once and for all. I had the same issue, the cover would slide back, but the top would not budge. Could hear the hydraulics struggling, but nothing happened. My shop took the top apart piece by piece, testing every relay, etc. Couldn't figure it out, so I transported it to a Ferrari dealership who fixed it in ten minutes. That only lasted three weeks and the same thing happened. My shop spoke with the Ferrari shop, and the light bulb went off for them. He diagnosed it as a stripped cable on the driver's side. Overnighted the part in, two hours to put it back together, and it has been fine.

Just put the car to bed in my hangar for the winter. Looking forward to the sun in May!

I had this problem too with hot temperatures. Now after a hard drive, I park, sit with the engine running for about 6min and then proceed to close the soft top to avoid any embarrassment.
