Guys, My window behind the seats in my F430 that looks in to the engine bay is hazy and has some streaks that will not clean off. Is this common due to the amount of heat and condensation? Anyone else have this issue? I have tried to use various glass cleaners and even light solvents but no luck. Are their 2 pieces of glass or one in that location? Maybe moisture got stuck in between? Thanks in advance
The rear window is a double pane, I doubt the "stuff" is getting in between though. It's most likely just stubborn grease and grime. I recommend using some double-ought steel wool in conjunction with the glass cleaner to really cut through. the steel wool will not damage the glass, I've used on concourse winning cars...just avoid the trim and paint.
I dont think so. I had the 101 inspection done and had Algar specifically look at the headers in detail and they were 100% ok when I got the car 4 months ago. Remember too the 08's were not much of an issue with the headers. I think this is more of a film of some sort. The film is not that noticeable unless the sun hits it just right. Almost like the condensation from the heat of the engine/vs cold cabin and it etched into the glass? Anyhow anyone else have this issue? I may try the very fine steel wool as the other member mentioned....
Well I have not heard of very many 08 having cracked headers. I will have them looked at by the dealer...
Ryan, I believe even my 360 had this sort of issue on the engine glass/cabin window. I just chalked it up to a mixture of heat/oil/condensation/grime that you'd expect an engine to produce. I had some success with a degreaser type solvent and then windex with a towel. I wouldn't say it came out crystal clear but I was able to improve upon the way it was. Worth a try.
I had a 360 in this week, it had grime baked on to the glass also. It is just the typical "crude", only subjected to high temperature making it more stubborn. Just make sure getting to that window is a part of your typical cleaning routine.
I am going to try to use some different cleaners to rid the problem. My guess is that it is just built up condensation that forms on the glass. Its not a big deal, I am just fussy about my car being very clean. Its tough to due very hot temps in the engine bay vs. ac filled cabin. I will deal with the condensation and residue marks, I LOVE LOOKING INTO THE REARVIEW at that POWERPLANT! As for the headers being the source, I doubt it. The car runs strong and it is not a residue powder type film like the cracked headers cause.
Ryan, I suspect that what you are seeing is a normal build up of engine residue and condensation, nothing to worry about. I do not believe your headers are contributing to this at all. I would suggest trying a Mr. Clean magic eraser with a small amount spray-nine. Michael Bloch @Algar
G'day Ryan, Being a window tinter for some 30+ years let me help you eliminate film as a possible cause. I have a 430 coupe myself and I've got it tinted all round except the engine bay hatch. First check with your fingernail on the inside of the rear small screen to see if you can detect an edge.....that will indicate a film installed. Also look at the window from inside the engine bay and see if the border of the glass around the dot matrix surround has a whiteish edge on the inside. That will tell you film is there as the border encapulates air in between every dot of the painted black surround. If it's film, then it's more than likely a material fault in the solar film and needs replacing. If on the other hand you can definately say that there is no film, then it will be possibly some sort of moisture in between the double glazed unit. As a fellow pooster noted it is an IG glass unit and done that way for noise suppression. Rob www.cartint.net.au OZ.
I appreciate the advice but when I said "Film", I was referring to dirt film not tint film. I know their is not tint in this area. I actually used a degreaser and improved the film I was speaking of. I will just have to keep workin at it, and include this as part of my weekly cleaning routine to keep the glass in great shape and avoid build up from engine heat, dirt, oils, etc... Thanks
My 360 gets the oily film every week (i drive it a lot). The engine window is the worst. Today's glass cleaners are so environment friendly, that they do not clean at all. Try vinegar and newspaper. Works wonders. Old school !
Replying to an old post / thread but does anyone else with the F430 experience the same issue? The rear window seems to be a double pane glass and it is turning hazy. It seems like it is between the two pane of glass? Anyone has a solution for this problem? Thanks.
Great advice. But instead of Steel Wool, I use Bronze wool. Just as effective but the little bits or steel fibers left behind from the steel wool will create little rust stains-- sometimes in the most inaccessible and inconvenient places. Using bronze wool will eliminate this nuisance. Ace Hardware sells it. I get the fine grade.
I have this same problem in my 08 430. It is as you describe, the seal between the two panes of glass has deteriorated and has allowed moisture to seep in and leave staining. Depending on the outside temperature ive seen the glass almost complete fog up and it’s near impossible to look thru the glass. It’ll leave drip stains from the moisture. So as to the fix: I asked the local dealer and they say to take it to an approved Ferrari body shop, their techs won’t replace it. Body shop work. I’ve investigated and there are 3 parts specialists that have the window and accompanying gasket in stock. Prices range from $400-$600. An Indy Ferrari-Porsche repair shop near me estimated about $900-1000 for install but that included the glass and gasket too. Very annoying... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
Thanks! That is exactly what I’m facing Bob. Also an ‘08 430. The moisture builds up when the engine compartment is hot and I’ve tried wiping it and noticed that it’s actually between the two panes of glass. I guess the only solution is to replace the glass.
I've got a '08 also and experiencing this same problem. I hope someone has a solution besides replacing the glass. I'm going to see if I can clean it, but I think it's between the glass? Fortunately I can still see through it.
It appears that the glass supplier in model year 08 had some quality issues... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
