Curious about the wear on the friction plates in the electronic differential in the F430. Is this something that will wear like a clutch and will need periodical replacement depending on driving conditions?

When in race mode the differential is more active in determining application of power to the wheels. If driven in sport mode will that lengthen the life of the friction plates and deter premature replacement?

The friction plates do wear. When I rebuilt the diff in my 348 the friction plates did have one side that was worn, the side facing the cross plate. I don't know how the diff is put together in your 430, but I'm gonna imagine that your plates are staggered. Mine were not, so I staggered them. When I did, the surfaces that were together had fresh friction material on them. Even if your plates do get worn, I would bet you could get them resurfaced.

As for how long they will last, well that depends on your driving. If you're constantly on the throttle HARD coming out of a corner, like on a track wear the limited slip has to work harder to keep the tire from rotating, they will wear faster. But if you're just putting around town I wouldn't worry about it.

Drive the car and enjoy it.
