Got a pre-loved F430 last week and noticed a pretty good exhaust rattle around 4k RPM. The well known exhaust mounts are fine and the tips aren't rattling. Poked around on it tonight and noticed that when I accidentally pressed on the cat back (muffler) it made a metal noise. Come to find that I can shift the can left to right about 1/8 inch, so I bet it's rattling since it's loose.

Anyone had this problem? Thinking about taking it to a shop and having them weld it on a bit to stop it from rattling. Of course I could replace it with a fancy new cat back but I like the stock sound and don't want to go louder (loud enough).

Sounds like a potential loose cat between at the location between the headers and cat connection. normally they are rock solid and if loose the front flange could be rattling.

The muffler on my car is loose too, but it doesn't rattle. Very common issue and in fact I'e heard that it is designed that way. Some people decide to tack weld the connections at the muffler can. Your rattle might be coming from somewhere else.

I too have an annoying rattle I can't find. It sounds like a bolt has backed out and the washer is loose and rattling. Mine does not sound like it is coming from the engine compartment but it is hard to tell. It is going on the lift this week for headers so I will see what I can find. Good luck.

I had a bad rattle and found the exhaust bracket was cracked, replaced with Capristo. Still had a rattle and it was the exhaust bypass valve. Needed to replace.

Exhaust brackets frequently crack. They mount the exhaust rigidly to the transaxle case. Pull the cover and check... New brackets are inexpensive, but will fail again. Consider Capristo brackets.

Cracks are particularly resonant at 4k rpms coincidentally. These brackets almost always crack.
