Something strange happened with my 2005 F430 F1, while driving at stop and go, it would go into neutral and “slow down” warning lights on. I couldn’t change gear, stuck at neutral. I need to shut off/on the engine to start at 1st gear again. Anyone have any suggestions or experience from this kind of a problem?

Welcome - initial reaction is clutch and/or fluid pressure - take a look in the 430 section for folk who've posted similar

Check your GB oil level, sounds like maybe pressure or overheat issue.
how many miles on car? When was last time you had service done?

Is there any chance that you have just brought this out of hibernation?

Do you keep it on a battery tender?

Instead of going on a wild goose hunt, it would be more useful to have the vehicle diagnostics run by either the dealer or an independent with a factory tool or the leonardo one. The bevy of electronic computers on board will have recorded faults and all instances of those events, they would give the technician a very good idea if not solution to the problem. Without the ability to run such diagnostics you are literally feeling around in the dark.

But why would you employ proven diagnostic methods when you can ask those with no experience for an opinion?

I am sure the OP has no idea of the types of information he will get so I don't fault him.

I honestly think people don't grasp or understand that vehicles of the last decade or so, are full of self reporting diagnostics and process checks that the days of manual checks are pretty much over. About all one is left with is there fuel in the tank. Spark, fuel and air are monitored to such extents that really all is needed is plugging into the diagnostic port and communicating with the computers to find out what is going on. I know you know this but I truly believe that the public is not aware of this.

Even the aftermarket ECU's run fault codes and diagnostics if you set it up. I enjoy being able to pull up and watch all the sensor data in real time and pinpoint a problem. I just put a fuel sensor on recent build, it tracks in real time the temperature and ethanol content of the fuel, that data is then used by the ECU to alter the fuel trim and ignition maps. If the fuel sensor reports faulty or erroneous values it can be setup to trigger a either a limp mode or shutdown. Now how in the world would someone without an interface know this has occurred? And that's only one of many sensors that can cause a limp-home or shut-down.

vehicles today are rolling computers, heck mercedes tracks the temps of the ECU's processors and motherboards! Engine management is so complex today there is no way to sort what is going on without having access to the ECU.

My intuition is that this would not be a good time to interject that M6 transmissions would not have this problem, so I won't.

I did the same today. Especially helpful with running E85 on forced induction cars :)
