I've had my 2006 F430 now for about one month and have purchased 3 tanks of gas. I purposely run it down until the refuel warning is displayed in order to verify that the warning works and correctly shows the proper low fuel level. However, after refueling, the gauge is very slow to respond to the added fuel and will incorrectly indicate low levels of fuel. It often takes days for the gauge to register a full tank, I thought perhaps the float may be sticking, so I have tried driving over small bumps to jar it loose.

Is his typical of the fuel level sender system? Any thoughts on the problem?

    Cheers,

    Fred R.

This is certainly not how my 430 behaves, as soon as it's filled it registers.

It sounds like a faulty fuel level sending unit.

I would say the float was hitting the side of the tank instead of being located in the open. Many sensors are located at the tank top and have 6 screws allowing them to be positioned at any of 6 positions. If you have access to the gas tank, check whether it can be repositioned one step to clockwise or ccw as needed.

Yes, but can anyone really understand how the guage goes down? Seems like it stays full for a long time then the last 2 bars come off.

I always liked on the 355 where the guage would show 4/4 full :)

    Taz man.

So I ordered the "fuel level indicator" as shown... Come to find out that is actually JUST the float & the rod that attaches it to the fuel level sender. all for $200...

So... That will not fix this issue. You must get the complete fuel pump with sending unit. $350 (a much better better deal :)). Its on order now.

Michael- Sorry you had to go the whole route. Sometimes it is the float and not the sender. Hopefully Daniel gave you credit for the pieces and what you have fixes your problem.

I learned the same after my mechanic ordered the "fuel level indicator". I retired from the Big Yellow Tractor Co. and I thought we had high proprietary parts prices. But $200 for a bent coat hanger and a piece of plastic surprised even me. I hope to have the new pump and sending unit installed tomorrow. Let's hope it solves this simple problem.

    Cheers,

    Fred R.

Wait........Michael B, you're my mechanic. Get back to work.
