It's very strange. Most CDs work just fine - pop them in, and they play fine. Yesterday I had a 2-CD set with me. The first CD played fine. I put in the second CD and the system did not recognize that a CD was in. Then, all of a sudden, the whole Hi Fi shut down and restarted itself. It really didn't like this CD. I also had some trouble ejecting it, but finally I got it out. I put the first CD back in, and it played fine. This is the second time this has happened with a CD not working and making the system freak out. Thoughts?
I assume the obvious - the back does not have obvious cracks or scratches? (Sorry, somebody was bound to ask.) Sometimes it may help to polish it carefully if you suspect foreign substances. This is a point I have long been concerned with on CD's. They do have some great qualities, but their failure mode is the pits. I have managed to fix by hand several mangled tapes, both cassette and VHS, but when a CD starts skipping, freezing up, or doing "impromptu eject" on certain tracks...it is generally toast. Besides the fact that I have yet to see one of these that won't pop or skip on the worst of rough roads.
True I was told to always eject them rather than leaving them in overnight to get stuck......do you think it's a defective product or this is happening with different ones?
Just as a random Q.... is the second CD of the set a DVD by chance? I have a few sets like that and most CD players don't like it too much.
YOU have just dated yourself... When was the last time you saw HI FI Also Some hi fi's don't like them pesky mp3's and such
Try a cleaning cd...they cost $10 or $12 and have very fine bristles on them to clean the lazer. This can help often times. If not, time to get it fixed or replaced.
