When I try to open the hood, the electric switch works fine, the hood pops up and is held by the safety catch. But then I put my hand under the hood and push the lever and it does not easily unlock the catch. It is as though the hand lever is moving but not, in turn, actuating the hook. By tryin many different angles to push on the hand lever I can eventually get it open but it seems like just a matter of time before I get into a sticky situation. Anyone know a quick fix or have a schematic of the assembly?

    thanks, Mike

My trunk latch does the same thing. I have not been able to figure out what it is that is locking the hand release lever. When the lid is open the lever works smooth and does not catch on anything. I have found that after popping the solenoid latch, a sharp uplift of the hood against the hand safety latch seems to loosen it and it usually opens after that without catching.

Do you have an emergency release for the frunk lid for children trapped inside? This system allows the lid to be popped (for fresh air), but not completely opened if the vehicle is above 5kph. Seems unlikely, but perhaps this system is interfering with the release? There are individual motors for the regular frunk lid release and the secondary locking emergency system, but I don't know how the system is tied together mechanically.

The wiring diagrams show there is a relay involved in the child safety system, but it's unlikely to be stuck in the activated (locked) position. You can always (temporarily) pull the relay (AR4 in the frunk) or the fuse (AF15) for the child safety system to make sure power is not getting to the secondary locking system.

If there are cables associated with the child safety system, perhaps they need lubricating? Also, does your manual frunk lid release (under the dash) work? Maybe this cable needs lubricating, too?

Wiring diagram for the frunk and child safety systems here, but it sounds like a mechanical issue:
