Hi guys I am having some problems with my F430 F1(47.000km) and we are a bit lost with the solution. A while back I was having a leak on the gear actuator on the back, this caused the pump to have air and the gears would get stuck. We removed it and send it to the UK for repairs. Got it back and installed it, the repairs where done perfectly and no leaks came out and the car was running fine.

After a few days I started getting an Ediff error in the mourning, after I tuned the car off and on again it went away and never came back during the day. This error came randomly only in the first startup. Some days yes and some days no.

But after a few days of using the car the hydraulic pump started having the same noise when it sucked air, after inspection the level was low again. We refilled and after a few days again the same problem. The car was checked at the ferrari dealer but no external leaks have been found so the hydraulic fluid is leaking inside the gear box or the differential as I was told by Ferrari here.

About a year ago some work was done to the differential and some disks where changed, but after that I have put over 10.000km with no problems.

So anyone can give me a hint to where this leak could be going and posible solutions? We are quite lost here in Chile as there aren't many F430s.

Thanks in advance for any help...

    Michel...

i guess if there's an internal leak it must be via the inside of the f1 actuator where the hydraulic red fluid can be flowed into the gearbox.
if it is the case, blame the refurbisher of the f1 actuator because the seal is bad on the inside of the actuator

The guys here think it is more probable that the leak is in the e-diff. It appears the seals one the e-diff are quite complicated and I was told that ferrari does not have the seal kit available but I have to buy a new e-diff.

Could also be worth mentioning it hasn't leaked since. I haven't started the car but I have checked it each day and opened the drivers side door to prime the pump but no further signs of leakage.

if you are not changing gears or let the e-diff valve to open ,it won't leak anything

driving is believing in this case

Just to update, the actuator is not leaking, it was checked and all is ok. So the only other part it can leak inside is de EDIFF, I was told this is a complicated part of this particular model and seals are not sold separately so I had to order a new EDIFF. Not the ideal solution but at least if will solve the past and new problems all in one.

Thanks 24000rpm... any info who could make this? Here in Chile we haven't found anyone so any info would be great.

its rather an industrial thing rather than automobile

I am not sure about Chili, but usually in industrial nations such as your country should have some sort of a market for "hydraulic products".

check for ebay equivalent in chili or a real-world market.

if you bring a sample or give them the size, they'll custom made it for u

in China it would cost $1 to make 1 seal, if you make a lot it shouldn't cost more than a few dollars.
Not much more in the US, where I stayed for more than 10 years.

it is sheer coincidence that I got a damaged 430 gearbox for free. courtesy of an Internet friend that I answered a lot of questions and tech tips for.

I'll give you some pics and maybe you can point out where it is leaking

look at the last picture, the bearing is coming apart when I open it. the hydraulic fluid is leaking into the gearbox.

    there's metal shaves everywhere

I am not sure why this happened, nor does the owner
