Greetings to all. I am the happy new owner of a 2005 F430, which was delivered to me last weekend (My first Ferrari). Quick question regarding the key. (I attempted to search the site for the answer, but was unable to find anything). The car was delivered with one key....a red key with a central push button on one side that locks/unlocks the doors. In addition to the key, on the key chain, is a black "fob" like plastic item, ~1" x ~1/2" x ~1/8". The dealer told me that this was the immobilization transponder. I was under the impression that the locking/unlocking and immobilization electronics were all contained in the red key (on the F430). Is this correct? Do some early build F430 have separate key and transponder devices (like the 360)? Thanks very much for any/all input. I am planning to have a second key made in the coming weeks, and want to make sure I get the correct hardware. - Jason
I have not seen any F430's with a separate transponder. All you need should be in the key. As for sticker shock - you bet. $735 with a new code card if you don't have one. My car only had one key as well. I swear previous owners must keep the extra key as a souvenir.
Mine came with one key also and no key code. $700 plus for the key, an hour of labor to program it and.....are you ready....$500 to get the code from Ferrari!!
Tracker fob? In the UK Ferrari's come with a tracker installed and the fob needs to be with the car when it is driven.
Normal but the best part is they don't guarantee that it will work. I paid my money and the code doesn't work.
Same here. My car came with one key. Cost of 2nd key + programming was a mere $1,200 *gulp*. Nobody said that Ferrari ownership is inexpensive.
Same with my 360 -- $500 but won't guarantees it'll work. I thought the 430s came with a button on the key that also opened the luggage compartment. Alan
John- Not the same Alarm PIN as a 360. Completely different system in the F430, which has a key/fob combination with lithium batteries. The F430 alarm can memorize up to 7 keys/fobs, even if you would go broke buying all those fobs/keys. I doubt that separate fob of the OP has anything to do with the immobilizer. Either serves some other function, or just ended up on the same keychain 612 fobs/keys have an extra button.
