Pulled it with my scanner the other day, and can't find it referenced anywhere. Another forum member was nice enough to look in the repair manual and it's not listed there either.

    Anyone have an idea?

It doesn't show as a Ferrari Extended code in my unit, so generically it reads:

P2407 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What year is the car? Many (not all) emission related devices are covered under the Federal mandated extended warranty...out to 7 or 8 years (I forget which). So you should take it to the dealer for repair.

    It's a 2005.

Just an update: I cleared the code with my scanner tool and have put about 25-50 miles on the car and it hasn't come back. Weird..

Some codes take multiple drive cycles to set the light...it may still come back, particularly if it is intermittent. Hook up your code reader again and see if it is "pending".

This is a Fedrally madated code for all cars sold in the US. We find code 407 generally refers to a leak in the sealed fuel system. Even more basic it is usally the seal at the gas cap. If you go to your local emissions station they can pull a vacume on the cap. If they can't or do not check gas caps, clean the sealing surface of the filler neck and the rubber seal under the gas cap. Then rub a coating of Vasoline on ther rubber seal and screw it down tight (5 clicks). now drive the car and see if it does not reset the code.

If the cap does not solve the code issue, then start looking at vac lines, vac switchs.

I might add that this code will not reset automaticly aftert a series of starts. Since 2002, big brother decided no more auto resets, no matter what the code number is. They want to drive the consumer to a repair facility for proper attention.

How are you guys finding this code? P2xxx are proprietary codes not generic. You need to see the Ferrari list for the 430. If you ever find it post it.

Ya, I know that's the generic code you can find through google. However, the P2XXX codes are manufacturer specific aren't they? I was hoping someone with access to an ST computer could pull the code and give me a pointer on where I should look.

I really don't trust my local dealer, I'm also reasonably sure they caused this code as it didn't happen before my car almost BLEW UP at a shell station due to the gas tank venting into the engine compartment.

I'm going to stop by the local dealer on the way home and see if they give me the details on the code, but I'm not expecting them to be helpful.

    So I dug into this..

First.. P0, P2, and some P3 codes are "generic"

P1, and some P3 codes are "proprietary"

Then I looked into the Motronic calibration for the F430.

Specifically the 36GW4 calibration, but I really don't think you care about that

2406, 2405, 2407, and 2404 are all related, are for the 2nd Motronic, and pertain to..

    Tankentlüftungssystem Modulfehler (Hardware)

Which translates to Tank ventilation system (aka the Evap system) Module failure (hardware)

They should be (in order) Hi, Lo, Sporadic, and Range/Perf.

    Sure enough..

From my trusty list of OBD codes..

P2404 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Range/Performance
P2405 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Low
P2406 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit High

    and...

P2407 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

So, something to do w/ your Tank Ventilation module is "intermittent".

I love obd2. That would be a tough diagnosis without the codes. Thanks for correcting my statements. about p2xxx codes being proprietary.

Almost nothing is covered by that anymore. The list is very short.

Almost certainly related. The various parts sealed to the tank are prone to leakage if not well and carefully installed.
