I've heard that the Challenge F430s have a harder pad for their CCM braking system. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so what's the best way to get a set?
My stock CCM pads aren't holding up too well after only 2 track days.

What would you estimate wear at? What track do you use? Is it hard on brakes? I'm interested to see where this leads, because I thought the carbon brakes were supposed to last a long time even with track use.

2 different days at Summit Point. I've used about 30% of my available pad material. Summit has a 3500 foot straight with a second or third gear corner at the end. The F430 hits close to 155 mph before the braking area and this is on the original Bridgestones. I'm sure that the P Zero Corsas that I just bought are going to really give these pads a shelacking.
    So I'm looking for alternatives.

I've heard most of the Porsche guys that track with carbon brakes change the pads when they are 50% worn to avoid any chance of damaging the rotors. BTW, what is the price of the carbon pads?

Well, I guess I did the right thing (for me) choosing steel brakes. Ferodo pads for my 430 cost $230 for both axles and are very satisfactory on the track.

Pads are an eye-watering $1700 a set for the fronts only.

    Gary,
With 20/20 hindsight I think that you made the smart move. For track work I think that the best set-up is the ovesized (380mm?) Brembo front brake kit (steel) and a good set of track pads. You can put softer pads in for street use and the whole shebang might cost 10 grand less than the CCM brake set up.
An added benefit would be that you could probably run 18 inch wheels and tires where there is a heck of a lot more variety of rubber available.
And if you ever ruin a rotor it would be very affordable. I've heard that CCM rotors are 6K each!
That being said, I do like the feel and characteristics of my CCM brakes, I just hope I can afford to continue to run them.

Think about this, for nearly the cost of one CCM rotor and a set of front pads you could go to Mont Tremblant for the Ferrari Driving Experience and cane their F430s for a couple of days. The food is probably a lot better too.

    Ain't that the truth!

Ted, have you tried the other circuit at Summit Point with faux 'Nurburgring carousel' turn? I'd like to say I had it figured out, but, somehow, I think that wasn't the case.

I hear from a reliable Brembo source that CC discs respond well to normal PAGID YELLOW (RS19B).

I don't know what pad shape/part number is yet though.

So far I've only been on the orginal track at Summit Point, but the new track looks really interesting. I understand that they will be using all three circuits at the FCA annual meet this Spring.

The new track will be a bit short for you in the 430, not nearly as long as the original, but that 'carousel' was definitely interesting. I've never seen anything like it. I hope you get the opportunity to try it.

    Gary(SF),
Please tell me which Ferodo pads (model number or part number) you use on your steel rotors. I tried my 430 at the track and the OEM pads are so soft they faded after a single lap.

    Thanks

Gary the other part about getting the steel brakes is even with the stock wheels there is lots of room for a big brake kit and it will still be cheaper than the space shuttle brakes by a bunch.

They use a weird pad shape but I have already looked into it and if a material can be found that will work on those rotors with certainty getting custom pads made in not super expensive. A few sets can be made for that $1700 price tag.

Brian is right, they are DS2500 pads. I don't have the part number in front of me, but I'll look it up later today. Interestingly enough, the pads are the same front and rear.

I was on track with a 430C in a lightened 348 race car. I lead him for a longtime before he finally got around me. Then I was on his tail and he could not shake me. I susepct I was so competative because everytime he stepped on the brakes it cost him $500.00!

Anyway, if you have the pad backing plates guys like Porterfield in Costa Mesa Calif. will put pad material of your choice. I used to do that for an old Maserati I had. I bet there are alot of compounds that will work with ccm. It is not rocket science but Ferrari wants you to think it is so they can rape your wallet.
