I am ordering a F430 but I am not sure if I want a spider. I definately want to enjoy open air when nice out. But I live in Seoul, Korea where we get only about 6 months of warm days a year. Moreover, I won't be able to open the top in daytime because the traffic here is very bad so that I will have to deal with all the smokes. It wouldn't be a problem if F430 had a hardtop like the Merc SL, but I don't like how the car looks with softtop on. I don't know if it's worth sacrifycing looks and performance for 6 months of open air at night time. Please let me know your opinions. Thanx.

If i was in your position i would get the F430 Coupe. If i was in my position i would do the same. I Prefer the Coupe for my life style! But the Spider defently is a winner.

Coupé. Definetely. Things would be different in Southern California, Florida or South of Italy. ;)

the spider looks good with the top up and the 430 top is very well insulated and quiet..not even much wind noise...the coupe is 150lbs lighter with a stiffer chassis, but you will only notice this on the track at high speeds..the spider will have better resale value, and will sound better with the top down....if security is an issue, go with the coupe, otherwise, there is nothing like a ferrari spider on a nice day with the top down....the ultimate in high speed cruising

If you get the spider, there will be many instances where you'll be driving along telling yourself that you made the right choice over the coupe....

Somewhere after passing the $100,000 mark...you've gotta just ignore "reason, sense and rationale thought". Practicality and prudent choices are NOT part of owning such a vehicle.

Resale on spiders have always been better too. In the end, it's a decision you'll just have to make for yourself (as if that wasn't obvious :) )

Spyder always looks stunning but not when closed.
I would go for 430 if I were you as you would be able to enjoy your drive 'more' often without having to consider the temperature.

I'd go with the coupe', especially considering your location.

the convertible soft top is sound and temp insulated, with the ac or the heater on, it can be as warm or cool as the coupe....i am basing my statements on my 360 spider, which i drove in exterme cold and extreme heat, top up and top down....and with the top up it still looks better than 99% of the cars out there......

If you're paying sticker for the Spider then it will be the better investment. But, if you don't think it's too practical then the coupe is the better choice. Personally I'm a coupe guy all the way.

If you have air pollution during the day then you will probably encounter some at night too. I would go with the coupe.

I would just add not to make this consideration in the abstract- consider what other car(s) you have. Maybe you get the coupe, and take the difference and get a fun less expensive convertible for the few times you want open air motoring? Just a thought.

    Best regards,
    Jerry

I have a cayenne turbo and a 911 turbo, but 911 will be replaced with AM DB9 soon. I have an extra coupe for winter but AM DB9 is a GT car with comfort, definately not a race bred sport car.

I am paying sticker for 430 in either coupe or spyder, coupe for this winter, and spyder for spring 06. (although sticker for coupe will go around $300K and spyder will go $50K more than the coupe) Cars in Korea are expensive. But Ferraris are better value than other cars here. Base 911 turbo goes for $240K and so does Merc S600.

Oh, just wanted to let you know..
The only Ferrari delaership in Korea offers new 360s for people who orders (30% pre-payment) 430s until they recieve their 430s. For Free! Super Cool!

I have no doubt, Spyder looks better when the roof is off but IMO coupe looks better when Spyder has its top on.

imo, the last good looking convertible to come out of Ferrari was the 355. It's been going downhill since then. The 430 Spider is ungainly from several angles -- and that's with the top down!

Get the coupe! Better yet, it you haven't already owned one, get a 360 coupe -- it's a much more elegant design...

All the comments about looks and resale value are fine, but does anyone care about driving experience & pleasure ? This gets a lot less theoretical, and comes a lot closer to what these cars are about.

My opinion, after driving both, is that the spider is an awkward proposition: will never be a track day tool like a coupe, but isn't a nice cruising car either (too freakin' loud).

Despite all the rhapsodic drivel about passion and soul, it's merely a trophy or ornament for most. In the US, at least, the driving part never enters into it for the vast majority of Ferrari "enthusiasts". In fact, they've come up with lots of reasons NOT to drive them.

Well, here in the UK we only get about 6 DAYS of warm weather every year but loads of people have spiders!

I think the 360/430 spiders look better when the body and roof are roughly the same colour e.g. both dark blue or both black.

Ferrari's are primarily about driving, so I think you should go with whichever you think you'd prefer to drive in ideal conditions. And remember, when you're driving it you won't have to look at it...
