Hi All, Just had a PPI done on an F430 and got some low numbers on the compression test (inspector did not have time for leak down test at this time). Not much variance between them (good) but a lot lower than the 11.9:1 spec on an F430 (bad). Any thoughts? Thanks! 1 - 155 2 - 155 3 - 150 4 - 152 5 - 155 6 - 155 7 - 155 8 - 155
My M5 were around 190 psi... How many miles are on the car? If not broken in right, could have glazed bores? Still not broken in? Not sure what the psi 'should' be, but someone should chime in on that. Good Luck!!!
Im not sure but I think Brian mentioned that the 360 should have 200 psi but also varies with the technician who makes the test.
After a quick search he is the thread; http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291538&highlight=Compression+test
+1, I am sure there is a procedure involved to get proper results. There was a good write up for the M5 that I followed exactly and repeated to make sure results were consistant. 10K miles should put it right in being broken in...
The results are nice and tightly grouped which, as you say, is good but they do appear low. What did the PPI chap have to say about it or did he simply give you the numbers without comment? Depending on his method of work I would have thought that he'd be able to say that those numbers were consistent with other 430s he's tested or (perhaps) significantly lower. Generally speaking one wants to have the throttle in wide open position when pressure testing. On a mechanically operated throttle that's easily done (but probably still makes it a two-man job) but with electronically controlled throttle bodies (and electronics and injection disabled for the test) it's not as simple. Your tester may have tested with throttle bodies in place and closed. If this is the case the results might actually reflect perfectly well on the engine.
I received his report by email. He did not note that the numbers were cause for concern. I will call him in the morning.
