I have a 2006 Spider, today my car almost caught fire. This is the same situation happened to a gentleman at last years toy rally, except his car did actually go on fire. The hydraulic system for the top is under the left hand black panel covering this apparatus. I started my car up today to go out for a drive. As the car was warming up in the driveway I noticed white smoke coming up from under the left hand panel (drivers side). I quickly got my fire extinguisher & tried to see where the smoke was coming from. Lucky the car was not on fire. I am sure if the car was hot this would have been a fire. Anyway I unbolted the black panel to see what was happening, there is a tiny hydraulic line running directly above the exhaust manifold. Oil was dripping from this hose onto the exhaust. I will have this repaired at the dealer, please be aware of this and keep your eyes open. I have not heard of any recall, but something is definitely up with this.

Hopefully this is not a trend, but if it truly concerns you, I would recommend reporting it. That is the best way to help others. If a trend is found, it could start a repair campaign and you could save lives and injuries.
