Have a 599 F-1 that I will keep and had a 550, 348, 308, 330 before the 599. Know very little about the 430 spyder or 430s in general. Are the tops a problem? Costs and frequency of service? any "bad years" or other problem areas to watch out for. Thanks, Jack
I think 08 F430 has the MK-2 manifold which is less likely to fail. F430s are pretty reliable in general, mine (08 F1) has no major problems so far and needs to be serviced only once a year.
Same here on my 08 430 sider F1. Haven't owned it for too long but hear good things! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You could usefully start by looking for and reading some of the other how-to-buy a 430 threads - there seems to be about one a week currently For example http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/360-430/439389-430-spyder-year-buy.html
It's not easy finding a nice 430 6MT (3 pedal) car, but they are out there and expect to pay a little more for one these days. They seem to be very reliable, with the eexception of the well documented exhaust manifold cracking/failures. Buy a 2008 and you will be very happy and still have two years of warranty left.l
I think 3 Pedal is a wish choice as its more reliable and cheaper to run ....... which is why they seem to have a slight price premium. Just trawl through any 430/360 forum and there re more threads about F1 issues than anything else (Ignoring all the "how much is this worth" threads) If you do see one that's meets your spec act quick as in the UK 3 pedal cars seem to sell a hell of a lot quicker than F1 cars.
Ferrari of New Jersey has one for sale, 2006, red exterior , tan interior. I almost bought this one but Ferrari of New England had one very similar that I bought from them. I live close to Ferrari on New England.
I have an 430 05 6spd manual spider Red and Tan 3,000 miles love it no problems. Nothing like a gated shifter traded my 458 spider for this one.
Very interesting and I totally agree! For a lot of us who came of age driving manual gear boxes, there is no substitute for rowing through the gears. The gated 6MT is a special and unique experience that appeals many of us, allowing for a special "connected" feeling to our machines. I, too, purchased a 458, but soon began missing that feeling of a 3 pedal car, so I just had to buy (in addition to my 458) a very nice and rare 2008 430 Spider 6MT! Now, if the weather would only permit me to drive the beast...Ugh!
I just traded my mint 2004 Modena spider for a 2007 F430 spider manual and I love it. The F430 and California have great automated manuals (I've not driven the 458), but the stick is simply more fun. It's like getting 40% more driver involvement for free. I drive a pdk equipped Porsche daily, but 6mt all the way on the Ferrari!
I just traded in my 05 430 gated shifter for my 09 scud... The car was sold the day I dropped it off at the dealership multiple people were interested in the car. And I barely lost any money on the car. The 6 speeds def are holding their value better I had the car for 2 years no issues.
Don't get me started on that car in NJ, I made an offer on the car and they raised the price while we were working on the deal added 10k to the price and said that's what the "market price" is now. First time in 40 years the price has been raised on me when I was serious about a car.
Thanks for the "heads' up". These dealers often do not realize that we do not "need" these cars. Our financial ability to purchase the cars did not arrive accidentally in most cases.
Likewise F of NJ. Tried to buy a car there and they were not very helpful. The service department has been great in the limited dealings I have had with them.
There's a 2009 430 spider 3 pedal on ebay now, it has not sold about 4 times through the auction cycle. It was on my radar when I found the one I got (red black all carbon) had I not bought the one I just did I would probably be looking at it, it's red and tan. do an ebay search for 430 6 speed it should show up good luck.. having both a 430 and a 575 with both 3 pedal cars, the 430 is like the go carts I had as a kid.... I can't say I can really compare the 2 cars, they are like apples and oranges, both great but oh so different
